Penetration Depth of the Scanning Acoustic Microscope [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Sonics and Ultrasonics, 1985
A definition for the penetration depth of the scanning re- flection acoustic microscope is given. With this definition it is possible to calculate the penetration depth of a given lens geometry for a given material. The penetration depth depends on the elastic parameters of the object, the signal-to-noise ratio, and the operation frequency of the ...

Increasing the Sensitivity of the Scanning Acoustic Microscope to Anisotropy [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE 1987 Ultrasonics Symposium, 1987
The response of the scanning acoustic microscope to anisotropic materials is theoretically investigated. For this purpose, the reflection coefficient of plane acoustic waves incident on a liquid-anisotropic-solid interface is numerically calculated. The reflection coefficient depends, in general, on polar and azimuthal angles of incidence.

Improvement of anisotropy sensitivity in the scanning acoustic microscope [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1989
The response of the conventional scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) to anisotropic materials is theoretically investigated. For this purpose, the reflection coefficient of plane acoustic waves incident on a liquid-solid interface is numerically calculated for a general anisotropic solid oriented in any arbitrary direction.

Scanning Acoustic Force Microscope Investigations of Surface Acoustic Waves

open access: yesSurface and Interface Analysis, 1997
We report on the investigation of surface acoustic wave (SAW) fields by scanning acoustic force microscopy (SAFM), reaching submicron lateral resolution. The SAFM is based on a standard atomic force microscope and utilizes the non-linear force curve in the sense of a mechanical diode. The surface oscillation therefore leads to a shift of the cantilever'

Probing of oscillating surfaces by a scanning acoustic tunneling microscope

open access: yesThin Solid Films, 1995
Abstract The scanning acoustic tunneling microscope (SATM) which is based on a scanning tunneling microscope, is capable of detecting the amplitude and the phase of high-frequency surface acoustic waves (SAWs) as well as the surface topography. For our experiments the SAWs have been excited by interdigital transducers on YZ-LiNbO3 samples.

All-optical scanning acoustic microscope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In this thesis a new instrument, the all-optical scanning acoustic microscope (O-SAM) is presented, it is a non contact scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) which uses lasers to both generate and detect surface acoustics waves (SAWs) The non contact nature of the O-SAM overcomes some difficulties associated with conventional SAMs because of the couplant ...

Verification of experimental results with simulation on production of few-layer graphene by liquid-phase exfoliation utilizing sonication

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Graphene, an extraordinary tow-dimensional carbon nanostructure, has attracted global attention due to its electronic, mechanical, and chemical properties; therefore, there is a need to find out an economical mass production method to produce graphene ...

Non-destructive observations of small crack using scanning laser-induced acoustic microscope

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
The scanning laser-induced acoustic microscope (SLAM) has been developed as a tool for non-destructive observations of the defects in materials. It consists of the laser with modulation system, the function generator, the lock-in amplifier, the AE sensor

Ultrasonic High-Resolution Imaging and Acoustic Tweezers Using Ultrahigh Frequency Transducer: Integrative Single-Cell Analysis

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Ultrasound imaging is a highly valuable tool in imaging human tissues due to its non-invasive and easily accessible nature. Despite advances in the field of ultrasound research, conventional transducers with frequencies lower than 20 MHz face limitations
