Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Linear and Nonlinear Damage Detection Using a Scanning Laser Vibrometer

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2002
Because a Scanning Laser Vibrometer (SLV) can perform vibration measurements with a high spatial resolution, it is an ideal instrument to accurately locate damage in a structure. Unfortunately, the use of linear damage detection features, as for instance

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Screening for lung cancer using thin‐slice low‐dose computed tomography in southwestern China: a population‐based real‐world study

open access: yesThoracic Cancer
Objectives Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors threatening human life and health. At present, low‐dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening for the high‐risk population to achieve early diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer has become

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

A dual-mode LiDAR system enabled by mechanically tunable hybrid cascaded metasurfaces

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications
Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is widely used for active three-dimensional (3D) perception. Beam scanning LiDAR provides high accuracy and long detection range with limited detection efficiency, while flash LiDAR can achieve high-efficiency ...
