Simple Method for the Preparation of Composites Based on PA6 and Partially Exfoliated Graphite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the present work, the preparation of composite systems based on polyamide 6 (PA6) and exfoliated graphite was attempted by applying a simple procedure, which consists of a preliminary dispersion/exfoliation of graphite in the monomer, namely, ε ...

Characterization of Nitinol Produced by Laser Powder Bed Fusion for Mechanical Metamaterial Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Stabilization of L‐PBF Ni50.7Ti49.3 under low‐cycle loading was investigated. Recoverable strain after cycling was dependent on the amount of applied load. Recovery ratio was 53.4% and 35.1% at intermediate and high load, respectively. The maximum total strain reached 10.3% at a high load of 1200 MPa.

Noise2Void for denoising atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy images

open access: yesnpj Computational Materials
The Noise2Void technique is demonstrated for successful denoising of atomic resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) images. The technique is applied to denoising atomic resolution images and videos of gold adatoms on a graphene ...

Transient alumina transformations on Ni–Cr–Al alloys: nanocrystallization and Cr concentration impacts

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Ni–Cr–Al coarse-grained (CG) or nanograined (NC) alloys with 5 wt% Al but various Cr concentrations (10 wt% and 30 wt%) were prepared via casting and magnetron sputtering, respectively.

EBSD Study of Creep‐Induced Lattice Misorientation in MgO‐Particle‐Reinforced Austenitic Steel Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Post-acquisition image based compensation for thickness variation in microscopy section series

open access: yes, 2015
Serial section Microscopy is an established method for volumetric anatomy reconstruction. Section series imaged with Electron Microscopy are currently vital for the reconstruction of the synaptic connectivity of entire animal brains such as that of ...

EBIC/TEM investigations of process-induced defects in EFG silicon ribbon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
Electron bombardment induced conductivity and scanning transmission electron microscopy observations on unprocessed and processed edge-defined film-fed growth ribbon show that the phosphorus diffused junction depth is not uniform, and that a variety of ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Deformation Mechanisms and Fracture of Ni-Based Metallic Glasses

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2016
The cracking of materials and fracture surface is of great practical and academic importance. Over the last few years the development of the fractography of crystalline alloys resulted in a useful tool for the prediction or failure analysis.

Proposal for a three-dimensional magnetic measurement method with nanometer-scale depth resolution

open access: yes, 2018
We propose a magnetic measurement method based on combining depth sectioning and electron magnetic circular dichroism in scanning transmission electron microscopy.
