Enchondroma of the scaphoid bone
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 2002The scaphoid bone is a very rare location for enchondroma. The literature reports eight cases; five of them presented with pathologic fracture, and the youngest patient was 13 years old. This is a report of an 11-year-old patient with scaphoid enchondroma who presented with only mild pain in the left wrist.

Bone Scanning of Fractures of the Scaphoid
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1984The value of isotope scanning in patients with clinical signs of fracture of the carpal scaphoid bone and negative or non-diagnostic initial radiographs was examined. 30 patients were examined using both radiography and isotope scanning. A normal scan excludes a fracture. Increased activity localized to the scaphoid bone indicates a fracture.

Rapid prototyping of scaphoid and lunate bones

Dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica of the scaphoid bone
European Radiology, 1999We report a rare case of dysplasia epiphysealis hemimelica (DEH) in the wrist of a 7-year-old boy. Clinical, radiological and histopathological manifestations are discussed. The correct diagnosis of DEH, however, was made by the confrontation of the radiological and pathological data.

Aneurysmal Bone Cyst of the Scaphoid
JBJS Case Connector, 2016Case: We report the case of a 14-year-old girl with an aneurysmal bone cyst of the scaphoid successfully treated with curettage, phenol adjuvant therapy, and bone-grafting. Conclusion: Aneurysmal bone cysts rarely arise in the carpal bones, especially the scaphoid.

Simultaneous Dislocation of the Scaphoid and Hamate Bones
Journal of Hand Surgery, 1998We report a rare case of simultaneous dislocations of the hamate and scaphoid in an 18-year-old boy. Despite the extensive damage to the wrist joint, the functional results of open reduction and suture of intercarpal ligaments have been satisfactory, without carpal instability and degenerative osteoarthritis.

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2012Scaphoid fractures that fail to unite are at risk of developing avascular necrosis and progressive structural collapse, thereby complicating attempts at revision surgical treatment. Vascularized bone grafts have demonstrated utility in promoting consolidation in the treatment of scaphoid nonunions complicated by avascular necrosis.
