Enchondroma of the scaphoid bone
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 2002The scaphoid bone is a very rare location for enchondroma. The literature reports eight cases; five of them presented with pathologic fracture, and the youngest patient was 13 years old. This is a report of an 11-year-old patient with scaphoid enchondroma who presented with only mild pain in the left wrist.

Vascularized Bone Grafts for Scaphoid Nonunions
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2012Scaphoid fractures that fail to unite are at risk of developing avascular necrosis and progressive structural collapse, thereby complicating attempts at revision surgical treatment. Vascularized bone grafts have demonstrated utility in promoting consolidation in the treatment of scaphoid nonunions complicated by avascular necrosis.

The vascularity of the scaphoid bone
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1980The extraosseous and intraosseous vascularity of the carpal scaphoid was studied in 15 fresh cadaver specimens by injection and clearing techniques. The major blood supply to the scaphoid is via the radial artery. Seventy to eight percent of the intraosseous vascularity and the entire proximal pole is from branches of the radial artery entering through

Vascularized Bone Graft for Scaphoid Nonunion
Techniques in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, 2003The management of recalcitrant nonunion of the scaphoid can be frustrating. Recent understanding of the vascular anatomy of the distal radius has helped in the management of these problems. Vascularized bone grafting for scaphoid nonunion has improved the union rates.

1. The bad reputation of fractures of the scaphoid bone is based on a) past disasters caused by inadequate splintage and premature resort to operation; and b) selection of disabling cases for publication. 2. The results obtained in five series comprising over 1,000 fractures suggest that 95 per cent of adequately studied fractures less than a month ...
