Complete mitochondrial genome of the spotted scatScatophagus argus(Teleostei, Scatophagidae)
Mitochondrial DNA, 2013The complete mitochondrial sequence of the spotted scat Scatophagus argus has been determined using long amplification polymerase chain reaction (LA-PCR). The total length of sequence is 16,778 bp, and includes 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNA genes and 1 control region.

The carotenoid reserves of broodstocks have a considerable impact on reproductive performance, maturity, fecundity, spawning, and yolk-sac larvae quality. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the most effective strategy for enriching broodstock in artificial breeding programs by examining changes in the carotenoid profile of wild-caught spotted ...

Novel polymorphic microsatellite loci for the spotted scat Scatophagus argus
Conservation Genetics Resources, 2010Scatophagus argus is a recreational and commercial fish in East Asia. There is no genetic information about wild populations available so far. A first set of 15 microsatellite loci were developed from the species and characterized. The number of alleles per locus varied from 3 to 12 with the average of 6.6.

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2021
Nuclear receptor subfamily 0 group B member 1 (Nr0b1) belongs to the nuclear receptor (NR) superfamily. It plays critical roles in sex determination, sex differentiation, and gonadal development in mammals. In this study, the duplicated genes nr0b1a and nr0b1b were identified in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus).

Complete mitochondrial genome of the spotted scatScatophagus argus(Perciformes: Scatophagidae)
Mitochondrial DNA, 2013The spotted scat, Scatophagus argus (Perciformes, Scatophagidae), is a recreational and commercial fish in China. In this paper, the complete mitochondrial genome of S. argus was firstly determined. It is 16,783 bp in length and consists of 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes and 1 control region.

Effects of fish oil on ovarian development in spotted scat (Scatophagus argus)
Animal Reproduction Science, 2013The effects of different concentrations of dietary fish oil (0, 2%, or 6%) on ovarian development in 2-year-old female Scatophagus argus were investigated. The levels of serum sex steroid hormones (estradiol-17β, E2; testosterone, T), protein phosphorus (SPP), and protein calcium (SPC), as well as vitellogenin (vtg) mRNA expression in livers and ...

Biochemical and Histological Changes in Fish, Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus) Exposed to Diazinon
Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology, 2015Pesticide accumulates in aquatic ecosystems and exerts toxic effects on aquatic animals. In this study, stress parameters and tissue histopathology under acute diazinon exposure were investigated in fish, scat (Scatophagus argus). Spotted scat was exposed to different diazinon concentrations (0, 10, 20, 30 μg L(-1)) for 24, 48, 72, 96 h.

Optimization of stocking density of Spotted Scat (Scatophagus argus) in brackishwater nursery
Bangladesh Journal of Fisheries, 2023Spotted scats (Scatophagus argus) are euryhaline fish of the family scatophagidae inhabiting Indian and western Pacific oceans including Sundarbans estuary of Bangladesh and having good demand as food fish and aquarium. The present study describes the nursery rearing techniques of spotted scats to optimize the stocking densities for better survival ...

Renal Lysosomal Functions on Exposure toScatophagus argusVenom in Experimental Mice
Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, 2007ABSTRACT Scatophagus argus venom was extracted by homogenization and centrifugation. The lysosome-enriched fraction of mice kidney was isolated by differential centrifugation. To study the effect of S. argus venom on lysosomal membrane stability, acid phosphatase and cathepsin D, the two marker enzymes for lysosome, were assayed. In the renal lysosomal

Estrogen receptors (Er) play a critical role in vitellogenesis. Three ers (erα, erβ1 and erβ2) and vitellogenins (vtg-A, vtg-B and vtg-C) subtypes were isolated in various fish species, while the contribution of each Er to the regulation of vtgs expression was not analyzed in detail.
