ORIGIN OF LIGHT SCATTERING FROM DISORDERED SYSTEMS

open access: yes, 1995
Anelastic light scattering is computed numerically for model disordered systems (linear chains and 2-dimensional site and bond percolators), with and without electrical disorder.

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Scattering Coefficient Estimation Using Thin-Film Phantoms with a Spectral-Domain Dental OCT System

open access: yesSensors
This study introduces a framework for estimating the optical scattering properties of thin-film phantoms using a custom-built Spectral-Domain Dental Optical Coherence Tomography (DEN-OCT) system operating within the 780–900 nm spectral range. The purpose

Calculations of radar backscattering coefficient of vegetation-covered soils [PDF]

open access: yes
A model for simulating the measured backscattering coefficient of vegetation-covered soil surfaces includes both coherent and incoherent components of the backscattered radar pulses from a rough sil surface.

The Virial Equation of State of Low-Density Neutron Matter

open access: yes, 2005
We present a model-independent description of low-density neutron matter based on the virial expansion. The virial equation of state provides a benchmark for all nuclear equations of state at densities and temperatures where the interparticle separation ...

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Anomalous time delays and quantum weak measurements in optical micro-resonators

open access: yes, 2016
We study inelastic resonant scattering of a Gaussian wave packet with the parameters close to a zero of the complex scattering coefficient. We demonstrate, both theoretically and experimentally, that such near-zero scattering can result in anomalously ...

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...
