MRSA SCCmec epidemiology in Israel: development and implementation of an MRSA SCCmec typing strategy

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, 2011
Staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) typing is essential for investigating the molecular epidemiology of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Published assays were often found to be limited in their ability to characterize isolates that were not collected locally.

Variability of SCCmec elements in livestock-associated CC398 MRSA

Veterinary Microbiology, 2018
The most common livestock-associated lineage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Western Europe is currently clonal complex (CC) 398. CC398-MRSA spread extensively across livestock populations in several Western European countries, and livestock-derived CC398-MRSA strains can also be detected in humans.

Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) Analysis of MRSA

2013
Methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) changes to methicillin-resistant S. aureus upon the acquisition of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec), a genomic island that encodes methicillin resistance. All SCCmec elements reported to date share four common characteristics: (1) carrying the mec gene complex (mec); (2) carrying the ccr gene ...

Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) Analysis of MRSA

2019
Methicillin-susceptible S. aureus changes to methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) upon the acquisition of staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec), a genomic island that encodes methicillin resistance. SCCmec elements in S. aureus are classified into different types based on the combination of mec gene complexes and ccr gene complexes, which ...

Correlation between type IIIA CRISPR–Cas system and SCCmec in Staphylococcus epidermidis

Archives of Microbiology, 2021
A subculture of S.epidermidis strain ATCC35984 that is amenable to genetically manipulate was occasionally found in our laboratory. This mutant exhibited susceptibility to methicillin in contrast to its parent strain. To unveil the underlying mechanism, whole-genome sequencing of the mutant was performed.

SCCmec-associated psm-mec mRNA promotes Staphylococcus epidermidis biofilm formation

Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, 2016
Biofilm formation is considered the major pathogenic mechanism of Staphylococcus epidermidis-associated nosocomial infections. Reports have shown that SCCmec-associated psm-mec regulated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus virulence and biofilm formation. However, the role of psm-mec in S. epidermidis remains unclear.

Identical MALDI TOF MS-derived peak profiles in a pair of isogenic SCCmec-harboring and SCCmec-lacking strains of Staphylococcus aureus

Journal of Infection, 2012
MALDI-TOF MS-based peak differences in oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and oxacillin-susceptible S. aureus isolates have been described previously. Unfortunately, these isolates were not isogenic with respect to their mecA gene. Ours is the first to use a SCCmec-harboring parent and a SCCmec-lacking daughter strain, with the same genetic ...
