Detection of diverse SCCmec variants in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and comparison of SCCmec typing methods [PDF]
Non-duplicate methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates (n = 436), collected from four hospitals located in three Korean cities between 2001 and 2005, were investigated by SCCmec typing and multilocus sequence typing (MLST). Variations within SCCmec, especially type II, were detected in 165 (37.8%) isolates, and these variants were ...

SCCmec and spa types of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains in Israel. Detection of SCCmec type V [PDF]
Molecular characterization of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates from three hospitals in Israel was the aim of the study presented here. We identified 11 distinct genetic clones by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. Molecular typing identified four different SCCmec types-I, II, IV, and V-and nine spa types.

Characterization of a new SCCmec element in Staphylococcus cohnii. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Many SCCmec elements of coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) could not be typed using multiplex PCR. Such a 'non-typable' SCCmec was encountered in a Staphylococcus cohnii isolate.

Variability of SCCmec in the Zurich area [PDF]
A periodic survey of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Zurich in 2004 and 2006 revealed a consistently low prevalence of MRSA. SCCmec and ccr typing showed fluctuations in the proportions of SCCmec types and in the carriage of mobile virulence determinants.

Type IV SCCmec found in decade old Brazilian MRSA isolates [PDF]
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) commonly causes infection in hospitalized patients. Since its appearance in the 1960s, the SCCmec has evolved throughout the years into 5 different types (I-V), each bearing a different set of genes ...

Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) Natural Excision Frequencies and Its Contributing Factors in Variant SCCmec Type Prototypic Strains [PDF]
Background: Staphylococcus aureus acquires methicillin resistance genes through the SCCmec element. Although spontaneous SCCmec excision has been observed, its frequency, type-specific variation, and responsiveness to environmental conditions remain undefined.

Molecular Diversity and Comparison of Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec Element in Hospital- and Community-Associated Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus From Pakistan. [PDF]
Background Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is one of the leading causes of hospital and community‐acquired infections, with the increasing threat of antimicrobial resistance worldwide. Staphylococcal Cassette Chromosome mec (SCCmec) typing is one of the molecular techniques to predict the genetic background of MRSA strains and ...

Risk Factors Associated With Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections in Patients With Diabetic Foot Ulcers in Tehran. [PDF]
Background Foot ulcer is a common complication of diabetes mellitus, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates among diabetic patients. This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S.

Prevalence and Antibiotic Resistance Pattern of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Isolated from Iraqi Hospitals [PDF]
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteria are often multi-drug resistant, resulting in a high rate of treatment failure. This study aimed to identify the antibiotics resistance profile and molecular characteristics of MRSA strains ...

Of Commensals and Opportunists: Genomics of Coagulase-Negative Staphylococci During Sequential Ear and Eye Infections in a Healthy Adult. [PDF]
The genomes of coagulase‐negative staphylococci (CoNS) isolated during sequential ear and eye infections in a healthy adult are analyzed. We highlight the identification of a community‐acquired S. capitis subsp. urealyticus ST1 lineage carrying a mosaic SCCmec IV element, linking common skin commensals to multidrug‐resistant strains associated with ...
