Data Handling in Primary Mathematics Schemes

Teaching Statistics, 1992
The authors of this article are members of a subcommittee of the Mathematical Association's Teaching Committee. The subcommittee's brief is to prepare a pack of materials for primary school teachers to help them to teach Data Handling in the National Curriculum at Key Stages 1 and 2.

The Future of the Discipline? Mathematics and the Undergraduate Ambassadors Scheme

Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, 2005
The crisis in UK mathematics education, both in schools and universities, has been widely reported. Currently, 24% of full-time mathematics teachers in English secondary education have `weak’ or `nil’ qualifications in the subject, 31% of secondary mathematics teachers are now over the age of 50, and it is estimated that England alone is short of 3500 ...

A mathematical analysis of a park-and-ride scheme

Transportation Research, 1978
Abstract A mathematical analysis of a part-and-ride scheme coupled with a pedestrian precinct is made for the journey to work. The effects of speed ratios on major and access roads are calculated, together with the variation of time savings, for given speed ratios, with the number of parking stations available.

MICE: An Efficient Grid Scheme for Mathematical Computing

2006 IEEE Asia-Pacific Conference on Services Computing (APSCC'06), 2006
We designed a Grid Computing model in math based on current network computing technologies. MICE is an emerging technology to provide uniform programming, task submission, and management specifications across the large scale distributed computing nodes which deployed some famous mathematical software.

Mathematical Analysis of Preventive Maintenance Schemes

Journal of the Operational Research Society, 1980
A new approach is proposed for the maximization of profit by optimal scheduling of machinery. Only one objective function (profit) is used instead of two (availability and cost). The latter approach inevitably resulted in suboptimization. In addition, the "single objective function" approach naturally lends itself to comparisons of efficiency between ...

Physical and Mathematical Modelling of a River Diversion Scheme

Water International, 1986
ABSTRACT A scheme for withdrawal of water from the Sacramento River in California, USA, without the construction of a dam was investigated using physical models of the river at two different scales. The first physical model was used to study sediment problems associated with large water diversions from this tidally-influenced river which carries a ...

Metasystem transition schemes in computer science and mathematics

World Futures, 1995
We analyze metasystem transitions which may be observed, or are intentionally used, in computer science and mathematics. Various metasystem structures are present in their activities of executing, creating and manipulating formal linguistic models.

A physiological scheme and mathematical model of temperature regulation in man

Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1968
Mean skin temperatures, rectal temperatures and sweat rates were measured on four highly acclimatised subjects. They were exposed for 180 min to 16 different combinations of 4 metabolic rates and 4 air temperatures, ranging from cold (10°C) to hot (49°C).

A new smoothing scheme for mathematical programs with complementarity constraints

Science China Mathematics, 2010
In this paper, we consider a mathematical program with complementarity constraints (MPCC). We present a new smoothing scheme for this problem, which makes the primal structure of the complementarity part unchanged mostly. For the new smoothing problem, we show that the linear independence constraint qualification (LICQ) holds under some conditions.
