Genetic, phenotypic, and ecological differentiation indicate a new cryptic and threatened species in the orchid genus Epidendrum from Alcatrazes Island, southeastern Brazil

open access: yesJournal of Systematics and Evolution, EarlyView.
Epidendrum insularis occurs on the remote Alcatrazes Island in the southeastern Brazilian coast. The description of this new cryptic species was only possible by the joint use of molecular markers, reproductive experiments, flower morphometry, functional traits, and community analysis.

Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Study of the Essential Oils of Schinus longifolia (Lindl.) Speg., Schinus fasciculata (Griseb.) I. M. Johnst., and Schinus areira L. [PDF]

open access: yesZeitschrift für Naturforschung C, 2005
The essential oil composition from the aerial parts of three Anacardiaceae growing in Bahía Blanca, Argentina was studied by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The essential oils of S. longifolia and S. fasciculata have been studied for the first time.

Corn Starch‐Pink Peppercorn Composite Biofilms as Potential Biodegradable Food Packaging

open access: yesStarch - Stärke, Volume 78, Issue 6, June 2026.
Biodegradable packaging produced with renewable raw materials is important to sustainability. In this sense, starch‐based biofilms modified with different forms of pink peppercorn could be useful as potential biocompatible, biodegradable materials for food protection, understanding the physiochemical interactions between biofilm and fruit during the ...

Schinus molle: a new source of natural fungitoxicant [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1986
The oil of Schinus molle exhibited the maximum fungitoxic activity during the screening of some essential oils against some common storage and animal pathogenic fungi. It showed absolute toxicity against animal pathogens and mild activity against storage fungi. The effective concentrations of the oil varied from 200 to 900 ppm.

Henry Trimen: Under‐appreciated pioneer in the typification of Linnaean plant names?

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 75, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract In 1887, Henry Trimen published a paper summarising the contents of the Hermann Herbarium, in what is now the Natural History Museum, London (BM), in terms of the plant names published by Linnaeus. Trimen referred to the Hermann specimens as types of Linnaeus's names.

The scaling of seed‐dispersal specialization in interaction networks across levels of organization

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 5, May 2026.
Natural ecosystems are characterized by a specialization pattern where few species are common while many others are rare. In ecological networks involving biotic interactions, specialization operates as a continuum at individual, species, and community levels. Theory predicts that ecological and evolutionary factors can primarily explain specialization.
