Treatment of Schistosomiasis mansoni with Neostibosan.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1946
Twelve patients with ova of 5. mansoni in their stools were treated with the pentavalent antimonial drug, neostibosan (Winthrop). The patients were all males with ages ranging from 15 to 32 years. The drug was administered intravenously during a 2-week period of hospitalization.

Hemostatic Dysfunction Is Increased in Patients with Hepatosplenic Schistosomiasis Mansoni and Advanced Periportal Fibrosis

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2013
Background Schistosomiasis mansoni is an endemic parasitic disease and a public health problem in Northeast Brazil. In some patients, hepatic abnormalities lead to periportal fibrosis and result in the most severe clinical form, hepatosplenic ...

Extracellular Vesicles From Schistosoma mansoni Adult Worms Stimulate IL‐10 Release by B Cells

open access: yesParasite Immunology, Volume 47, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Schistosome parasites are known to modulate host immune responses, which is achieved in part through the release of excretory/secretory (ES) products, including extracellular vesicles (EVs). During chronic schistosomiasis, increased regulatory responses are found, which include enhanced IL‐10 production by B (Breg) cells.

A loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for early detection of Schistosoma mansoni in stool samples: a diagnostic approach in a murine model. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2014
Human schistosomiasis, mainly due to Schistosoma mansoni species, is one of the most prevalent parasitic diseases worldwide. To overcome the drawbacks of classical parasitological and serological methods in detecting S.

Schistosomiasis transmission in Zimbabwe: Modelling based on machine learning

open access: yesInfectious Disease Modelling
Zimbabwe, located in Southern Africa, faces a significant public health challenge due to schistosomiasis. We investigated this issue with emphasis on risk prediction of schistosomiasis for the entire population. To this end, we reviewed available data on

PD‐L2 Inhibits Protective Immunity, Th2 Cell Functional Quality, and GATA‐3 Expression During Filarial Nematode Infection

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Immunology, Volume 55, Issue 8, August 2025.
During filarial nematode infection with Litomosoides sigmodontis, PD‐L2 down‐regulates Th2 cell expression of GATA‐3 and Th2 cytokines and enables parasite survival. Concurrently, B cells suppress protective immunity through a mechanism that does not involve PD‐L2.

Mouse model of Schistosomiasis: infection with Schistosoma mansoni in CD-1 mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease that affects almost 240 million worldwide. CD1 mice were infected with cercariae of S. mansoni, after which infection developed for 8 weeks. Tissues were processed to immuno-histological techniques.
