The Morphologically Divided Redshift Distribution of Faint Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We have constructed a morphologically divided redshift distribution of faint field galaxies using a statistically unbiased sample of 196 galaxies brighter than I = 21.5 for which detailed morphological information (from the Hubble Space Telescope) as ...

Education for Problems of Sustainable Development

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Cynefin framework for decision‐making categorizes problem environments into simple (known knowns), complicated (known unknowns), complex (unknown unknowns), and chaotic (unknowables). Simple and complicated problem environments enable best and good solutions, but complex and chaotic problem environments require emergent and novel solutions.

Performance prediction of roadheaders used in coal mines from the needle penetration index and the schmidt hammer value

open access: yesGeomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources
Coal mine galleries and construction tunnels are commonly excavated using roadheaders. Estimating the performance of roadheaders is crucial for planning and cost estimation when planning tunnel or tunnel projects.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF THE CONVERSION FORMULA FOR REBOUND NUMBER OF SCHMIDT HAMMER TEST AND UNCONFINED COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH TEST – CASE STUDY: ANDESITE ROCK SLOPE IN GRAHA PUSPA, LEMBANG FAULT

open access: yesRudarsko-geološko-naftni Zbornik
The Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) test is one of the most common methods for determining the rock material strength value. However, the size and complexity of the instrument do not allow UCS testing to be carried out in the field.

Bose polarons at finite temperature and strong coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
A mobile impurity coupled to a weakly interacting Bose gas, a Bose polaron, displays several interesting effects. While a single attractive quasiparticle is known to exist at zero temperature, we show here that the spectrum splits into two quasiparticles

Phase Transformation Behavior of Continuously Cooled Fe–C–V–(Mo) Alloys

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Additions of vanadium and molybdenum microalloying are shown to reshape phase transformations in clean low‐carbon steels. By tracking microstructural shifts during continuous cooling, the work uncovers the correlation between transformation kinetics, ferrite morphology, and hardness.

Post‐earthquake field assessment and damage correlation of elevated reinforced concrete water tanks in Kahramanmaras/Elbistan, Türkiye

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This study evaluates the seismic performance of elevated reinforced concrete (RC) water tanks in the Elbistan region following the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaras–Elbistan earthquakes. Field investigations, visual damage surveys, non‐destructive testing (ultrasonic pulse velocity—UPV), concrete compressive strength measurements, peak ground ...

The stone in a monumental masonry building of the Tyrrhenian coast (Italy): new data on the relationship between stone properties and structural analysis

open access: yesGe-conservación, 2017
In order to assess physical-mechanical properties of building material (“Fuscaldo sandstone”), non-destructive tests have been performed in the main façade of “Palazzo Carelli - Pignatelli” (14th-15th centuries) in Fiumefreddo Bruzio (Italy), situated in

HIGH SELECTIVE OIL SHALE MINING; pp. 305–325 [PDF]

open access: yesOil Shale, 2013
Several extraction technologies have been used for mining oil shale in Estonia. The quality and properties of the raw material for fuel and oil depend directly on the initial geological properties of the mineral resource.

The Evolution of the Baryonic Tully-Fisher Relation over the past 6 Gyr

open access: yes, 2011
Scaling relations are salient ingredients of galaxy evolution and formation models. I summarize results from the IMAGES survey, which combines spatially-resolved kinematics from FLAMES/GIRAFFE with imaging from HST/ACS and other facilities. Specifically,
