Bio-deterioration of stone and concrete by Melanopsis praemorsa in Gan-HaShlosha national park—A case study

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2020
Gan HaShlosha national park contain two ponds of running brackish water. Dams were built on the ponds in the 80 s. Some masonary from the dams, as well as other underwater structure, have deteriorated.

Refining the timing of Middle Pleistocene (MIS 12 to MIS 6) ice advances into northern central Europe: sedimentological analysis and single‐grain luminescence dating of glaciotectonic complexes and tunnel‐valley fills

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
We summarize the current state of knowledge on the age of the Middle Pleistocene ice advances into northern central Europe and provide 25 new single‐grain feldspar luminescence ages of Elsterian and Saalian glacigenic sediments to constrain the age of the ice advances and their tentative correlation with marine isotope stages/substages.

The Laser Scanner Technique: A Tool for Determining Shear Strength Parameters of Rock Mass Discontinuities

open access: yesApplied Sciences
When evaluating the shear strength of rock mass discontinuities, certain challenges arise due to the difficulty in quantifying the roughness characteristics of surfaces and the strength of asperities.

Single‐grain K‐feldspar luminescence dating on primary and re‐deposited aeolian sediments in Mongolia

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Owing to its location in the semi‐arid region of northern Central Asia, Mongolia is highly sensitive to climate change and therefore provides an excellent setting for palaeoenvironmental research. Proxy data from different sediment types are crucial for interpreting past climate changes and landscape evolution, while burial ages provide chronological ...

Hammer Time: Using the Schmidt Hammer to Improve the Forecasting Accuracy of the Rockfall Activity Index (RAI) [PDF]

open access: yes
69A3551747110The Schmidt hammer is a widely used and inexpensive instrument for estimating rock strength either in the lab or in the field. Our research team tested the accuracy and repeatability of the Schmidt hammer to estimate rock strength on six ...

Progressive Convex Hull Simplification

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract Convex hulls are useful as tight bounding proxies for a variety of tasks including collision detection, ray intersection, and distance computation. Unfortunately, the complexity of polyhedral convex hulls grows linearly with their input. We consider the problem of conservatively simplifying a convex hull to a specified number of half‐spaces ...

Use of the Schmidt hammer for testing weak rock

open access: yes, 2007
A Schmidt hammer, also known as a Swiss hammer or a rebound hammer, is a device to measure the elastic properties or strength of concrete or rock, mainly surface hardness and penetration ...

Evolutionary framework and tribal circumscription of Amaranthaceae sensu stricto based on a comprehensive phylogenomic analysis

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract The evolutionary history of Amaranthaceae sensu stricto (s.s.) has been shaped by multiple whole‐genome duplications and rapid radiations, producing an ecologically diverse lineage whose internal relationships have long remained unresolved.

Schmidt Hammer Rebound' users guide: IBM-PC/AT computer calculation of uniaxial compressive strength using the Schmidt Hammer

open access: yes, 1986
