Design of Schumann resonance generator and detector

2017 IEEE 5th International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC-Beijing), 2017
Schumann resonance is generated by lightning with a wavelength equal to the circumference of the earth. There is a practical need for Schumann resonance generator and the corresponding detector to fulfil relevant researches. In this article, we put forward a design of a flexible, reliable generator based on micro control unit and a high-precision ...

Investigation of Schumann resonance polarization parameters

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 1998
Abstract The Earth–ionosphere cavity is characterized by a number of disturbances which cause departures from the behaviour expected for the spherical symmetric case usually applied in model calculations. The main effects are the inhomogeneity of the upper atmosphere which is characterised by different conductivity profiles during day and night, and ...

Modern aspects of Schumann resonance studies

Journal of Atmospheric and Solar-Terrestrial Physics, 1997
Abstract Schumann resonance (SR) is an electromagnetic extremely low frequency (ELF) phenomenon that occurs in the natural cavity formed by the Earth's surface and the lower ionosphere. Electromagnetic radiation of global thunderstorms is the source of ELF oscillations.

Schumann Resonance Measurement Based on Nonlinear Interaction

Key Engineering Materials, 2010
Schumann Resonance relates with global temperature variations, new geophysics phenomena in the low ionosphere and short-term earthquake prediction etc. In this paper based on the nonlinear modulation model of high frequency and extreme-low frequency electromagnetic waves in low ionosphere, the Schumann Resonance observing is researched. Taking the fair

Schumann resonances in magnetic field components

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1995
Abstract The Institut fur Geophysik Gottingen has facilities to record the time varying magnetic components H and D at extremely low frequencies (ELF) (0.1–20 Hz) continuously over several days, with a sampling rate of 100 Hz. The lower ELF-range is characterized by anthropogenic noise and the first two Schumann resonance modes of the Earth ...

Line splitting in the Schumann resonance oscillations

Radio Science, 2007
We discuss detection of line splitting in the global electromagnetic (Schumann) resonances. The lifting of resonance degeneracy is usually not visible in the ordinary power spectrum of either the electric or magnetic field components since splitting is small in comparison with the natural width of the resonance lines.

Schumann resonance amplitude during the Forbush effect

Geomagnetism and Aeronomy, 2008
The time variations in the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) intensity at Apatity stations have been compared to the amplitude of the first Schumann resonance (as an indicator of the global thunderstorm activity power) for 12 cases of Forbush decreases in GCRs.

Eigenmode Prediction of the Schumann Resonances

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2018
The electromagnetic simulation of the Earth eigenfrequencies is covered, the so-called Schumann resonances. Comparisons to analytical and also measured results are presented, validating the approach. Similar numerical evaluations performed in time domain (finite-difference time-domain) and frequency domain (finite-element method) are also used for ...

Schumann Resonance Signatures of Global Lightning Activity

2008
This chapter is concerned with the Earth’s Schumann resonances (SR) and their application to understanding global lightning. The natural electromagnetic waves in the SR frequency range (5 Hz to approx. 60 Hz) radiated by lightning discharges are contained by the Earth-ionosphere cavity.
