Large Covariance Matrix Estimation by Penalized Log‐Det Heuristics
ABSTRACT We study covariance estimation in high‐dimensional approximate factor models with a sparse residual covariance. The estimator combines a log‐det loss with nuclear‐norm and off‐diagonal ℓ1$$ {\mathrm{\ell}}_1 $$ penalties on a sample‐normalized covariance scale.

Generalizations of Sherman’s inequality by Lidstone’s interpolating polynomial
In majorization theory, the well-known majorization theorem plays a very important role. A more general result was obtained by Sherman. In this paper, concerning 2n-convex functions, we get generalizations of these results applying Lidstone’s ...

Lipschitz‐free spaces over uniformly discrete metric spaces are 3‐Schur
Abstract We prove that the Lipschitz‐free space over any uniformly discrete metric space has the 3‐Schur property.

Hybrid Coupling With Operator Inference and the Overlapping Schwarz Alternating Method
ABSTRACT This paper presents a hybrid approach for coupling subdomain‐local, nonintrusive Operator Inference (OpInf) reduced order models (ROMs) with each other and with subdomain‐local, high‐fidelity full order models (FOMs) using the overlapping Schwarz alternating method (O‐SAM).

Tree metrics and log‐concavity for matroids
Abstract We show that a set function ν$\nu$ satisfies the gross substitutes property if and only if its homogeneous generating polynomial Zq,ν$Z_{q,\nu }$ is a Lorentzian polynomial for all positive q⩽1$q \leqslant 1$, answering a question of Eur–Huh.

General H-theorem and Entropies that Violate the Second Law
H-theorem states that the entropy production is nonnegative and, therefore, the entropy of a closed system should monotonically change in time. In information processing, the entropy production is positive for random transformation of signals (the ...

On Elliott's conjecture and applications
Abstract Let f:N→D$f:\mathbb {N}\rightarrow \mathbb {D}$ be a multiplicative function. Under the merely necessary assumption that f$f$ is nonpretentious (in the sense of Granville and Soundararajan), we show that for any pair of distinct integer shifts h1,h2$h_1,h_2$, the two‐point correlation 1x∑n⩽xf(n+h1)f¯(n+h2)$$\begin{equation*} \frac{1}{x}\sum _ ...

ABSTRACT This paper addresses the problem of dynamic output‐feedback H∞$$ {H}_{\infty } $$ detector‐based control for continuous‐time Markov Jump Lur'e Systems with uncertain transition rate matrices. In contrast to conventional approaches, the proposed synthesis conditions are derived using Finsler's lemma, introducing additional slack variables to ...

Trade and Selection With Heterogeneous Firms and Perfect Competition
ABSTRACT This paper extends the Heckscher–Ohlin–Samuelson framework to allow for heterogeneous firms with capacity constraints. We show that the central theorems of the HOS model (as well as their standard generalizations via duality) carry over to our setting.
