Unusual chromatin state in Rhynchosciara americana (Diptera: Sciaridae)

Chromosome Research, 2015
Euchromatin and heterochromatin are usually defined by the degree of DNA compaction, gene content and combinations of histone and non-histone proteins. More recent studies on protein location have been able to specify a variety of chromatin types thus adding chromatin configurations other than the two basic reference states.

Proposal of a new subfamily of Sciaridae (Diptera: Sciaridae), with description of one new species from South Korea

Zootaxa, 2019
Here we propose a new monophyletic subfamily, the Chaetosciarinae, based on previous morphological cladistic and molecular phylogenetic studies. This new subfamily includes the genera Chaetosciara Frey, Mouffetina Frey, Schwenckfeldina Frey, and Scythropochroa Enderlein.

Permethrin Resistance in Lycoriella mali (Diptera: Sciaridae)

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1989
Four colonies of Lycoriella mali (Fitch) collected from different mushroom farms in southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware were examined for resistance to topically applied permethrin in laboratory studies. Low to moderate (8- to 47-fold at LD50) resistance was discovered in all four colonies compared with a reference strain not previously exposed to ...

Insect Systematics & Evolution, 2004
AbstractThe Northern Hemispheric sciarid species placed in the nigrohalteralis group of Corynoptera Winnertz are a monophyletic unit, which is described as a new genus Dichopygina gen. n. (type-species Bradysia (Chaetosciara) triseriata var nigrohalteralis Frey).

Eggshell fine structure of Bradysia aprica (Winnertz) (Diptera : Sciaridae)

International Journal of Insect Morphology and Embryology, 1995
Abstract The eggshell fine structure of the dark-winged fungus-gnat Bradysia aprica (Winnertz) (Diptera : Sciaridae) was investigated by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. At the anterior pole of the ovoid egg is a single micropyle, centrally located in a well-defined micropylar area.

Studies on Cytology and Differentiation in Sciaridae

Differentiation, 1973
This paper reports observations on the salivary glands of Bradysia elegans. The salivary glands, under light microscopic examination, have five sharply qualitatively differentiated regions, one of which is only quantitatively subdivided into two zones as seen electron microscopically.

Embryology of Sciara (Sciaridae: Diptera)

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1934
Several years ago while working on the economic relations of Sciara larvae to scab on potato, I became interested in the life history and the embryology of this genus and having an abundance of material, started an investigation of the development of the embryo.
