Sciatic and Femoral Nerve Resection During Extended Radical Surgery for Advanced Pelvic Tumours

Annals of Surgery, 2019
Objective: To report survival, functional, and quality-of-life (QoL) outcomes after extended radical resection for advanced pelvic tumors with en bloc sciatic or femoral nerve resection. Background: Advanced pelvic tumors involving the sciatic or femoral

Remyelination in the chicken sciatic nerve

Neurochemistry International, 1982
Remyelination in the chicken sciatic nerve occurring after the injection of diphtheria toxin was studied. The rates of fast axonal transport and conduction velocities were measured sixty days after the injection of the toxin. Fast axonal transport rates were found to have returned to normal in the remyelinated nerves, but conduction velocity was ...

Surgery for Sciatic Nerve Injuries

Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2012
Injury to the sciatic nerve is a rare event. Apart from war time surgery, it usually presents as a closed lesion caused by traction. The aim of the study was to evaluate a group of patients treated for sciatic nerve injury, with an analysis of the cause for and the outcome of surgery. In this prospective study, the results in ten patients treated ...

Acetylcholine activity in the sciatic nerve

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1963
Abstract As measured on both the guinea pig ileum and the frog rectus abdominis muscle, acetylcholine (Ach) is uniformly distributed along the sciatic nerve. Measured on the ileum, about 75 per cent of the Ach activity is found in the soluble portion of the cell, while on the rectus abdominis, the corresponding figure is about 35 per cent.

A unique variation of the sciatic nerve

Clinical Anatomy, 2008
The normal course of the sciatic nerve out of the pelvis is through the greater sciatic foramen, below the inferior border of piriformis muscle and descends between the greater trochanter and the ischial tuberosity (Williams, 1995). There is evidence for anatomical variations of the course or level of division of the sciatic nerve (Pokorny et al., 2006)

Reevaluation of the Sciatic Nerve Block

Regional Anesthesia: The Journal of Neural Blockade in Obstetrics, Surgery, & Pain Control, 1993
Background and Objectives. Sciatic nerve blocks are perceived as unreliable, technically demanding, and uncomfortable. With strict criteria to define success rates, we designed a study to examine the efficacy of two techniques of sciatic nerve block. Methods.

Sciatic Nerve

2009
Abstract The L4–S3 Nerve roots form the sciatic nerve, which comprises both the peroneal and tibial nerves. The sciatic nerve is responsible for knee flexion and the actions of the lower extremity. As well, it provides sensory coverage to the posterior thigh, most of the lower leg, and the foot.

SCIATIC AND FEMORAL NERVE BLOCK

Journal of the American Medical Association, 1952
One of the most useful yet most neglected anesthetic procedures is the combination of sciatic and femoral nerve block. The physician who treats a large number of diabetics or patients with minor or major accidental injuries of the legs will find this block most useful. The technique of a satisfactory sciatic-femoral nerve block is simple to master, and
