Enabling scientific collaboration on the Grid
Future Generation Computer Systems, 2010We examine the problem of supporting access by collaborations of scientists to Grid resources. Our aim is to support dynamic collaborations, by which we mean collaborations that can be easily formed and easily dissolved. We argue that current technology for creating Virtual Organisations has difficulty meeting this requirement.

Scientific Collaborations at a Distance
Science, 2001The Internet has the potential to enhance collaboration among researchers by supporting technical applications that facilitate the rapid dispersal of information and to coordinate numerous and complex real-time interactions. An important paradigm of Internet-mediated science is the collaboratory, or "laboratory without walls," a virtual entity created ...

The organization of scientific collaborations
Research Policy, 2002Abstract Based on empirical analysis of 53 multi-institutional collaborations in physics and allied sciences, we find that generalizations about the essentially informal and collective social organization of collaborative projects in science stem largely from a narrow analysis of high-energy particle physics experiments. Cluster analysis reveals that

Collaborative Networks: A New Scientific Discipline
Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2005Collaborative networks manifest in a large variety of forms, including virtual organizations, virtual enterprises, dynamic supply chains, professional virtual communities, collaborative virtual laboratories, etc. A large body of empiric knowledge related to collaborative networks is already available, but there is an urgent need to consolidate this ...

Trespassing Testimony in Scientific Collaboration
Mind, 2023Abstract The term ‘epistemic trespassing’ has recently been coined to denote a person’s judgments regarding a domain where they are not epistemic experts. In this paper, I focus on expert trespassing testimony – that is, testimony by an expert in a domain of expertise other than his own.

Documents and distributed scientific collaboration
Proceedings of the companion publication of the 17th ACM conference on Computer supported cooperative work & social computing, 2014We ask the question: What document infrastructures do scientists build to support their virtual organizing and documenting practices? Cyberinfrastructure (CI) is seen by many as playing a critical role in the future of social, behavioral, and economic sciences (SBE) by enabling innovation and scientific discovery.
