Scientific Information by Computer

Nature, 1971
An evaluation of the Chemical Society's Chemical Titles information retrieval service compared with a parallel manual search of the literature has shown that, at least in certain disciplines, more than 90 per cent of the desired information can be obtained. This is quite adequate for most commercial and scientific purposes.

Scientific computations using micro-computers

ACM SIGNUM Newsletter, 1980
We review software and hardware of micro-computers in the light of requirements for the production of robust software. We consider that attitudes about such production on large scale computers which have been developed over the last fifteen years should be adhered to, and that user protection from inadequate software is most important.

Software for Scientific Computation

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1983
Abstract The three themes of this paper are: (1) Software can be an excellent means for the transfer of scientific and technical know-how. (2) The two keys to exploiting this potential are very high level languages (problem solving environments) and a software parts technology (reusable software).

Visualization in Scientific Computing

1991
Publisher Summary Computational science and engineering (CSE it enables them to analyze the data to uncover new information. Computational scientists rely upon a host of high-volume data sources in order to conduct their research. However, they are deluged by the flood of data generated.

Scientific Computation with JavaSpaces

2001
JavaSpaces provides a simple yet expressive mechanism for distributed computing with commodity technology. We discuss the suitability of JavaSpaces for implementing different classes of concurrent computations based on low-level metrics (null messaging and array I/O), and present performance results for several parametric algorithms.

Mobile Computers as Scientific Computing Machines

2014 IEEE Intl Conf on High Performance Computing and Communications, 2014 IEEE 6th Intl Symp on Cyberspace Safety and Security, 2014 IEEE 11th Intl Conf on Embedded Software and Syst (HPCC,CSS,ICESS), 2014
As pervasive mobile computing becomes more of areality the question arises whether a mobile device such as atablet can be sufficient to serve as the sole personal computingdevice of a scientist. To this end the performance of an Androidbased tablet computer is compared to that of a Notebook.
