The scientific output of the EC's less favoured regions

Results are given of a bibliometric study covering 1977–86 and 28 scientific fields defined by journals and title keywords. Attention was focussed on publications from less favoured regions of the EC, containing 20% of the population, 10% of the g.d.p., but only 5% of scientific output, although this is growing rapidly.

Regional analysis on Chinese scientific output

Based on data from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) and using scientometric methods, we conducted a systematic analysis of Chinese regional contributions and international collaboration in terms of scientific publications, publication activity, and citation impact. We found that regional contributions are highly skewed.

The dynamics of scientific manpower and output

Abstract Particularly with developing countries in mind, a dynamical model is developed for predicting scientific production in the future, using some empirical and phenomenological knowledge about the attrition processes that affect scientific productivity. A general mathematical scheme is formulated and then a number of numerical examples are given.

Scientific output of Iran at the threshold of the 21st century
