Tunneling in Persistent Luminescence

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Key experimental criteria are provided for the occurrence of thermal/athermal tunneling and localized transitions. Many experimental studies of PersL have assigned tunneling on the basis of the linear relationship of PersL decay between intensity, I, and time, t−k, where k is a constant or I−1 versus t.

Scintillation-only Based Pulse Shape Discrimination for Nuclear and Electron Recoils in Liquid Xenon

open access: yes, 2011
In a dedicated test setup at the Kamioka Observatory we studied pulse shape discrimination (PSD) in liquid xenon (LXe) for dark matter searches. PSD in LXe was based on the observation that scintillation light from electron events was emitted over a ...

Excitation‐Wavelength‐Tunable Lasing in Individual Quantum Dot Superparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoscale superparticles assembled from CdSe quantum dots are shown to behave as microlasers with emission properties that can be tuned by changing the excitation wavelength. Abstract Microcavities enable precise control over light‐matter interactions, supporting a wide range of applications in photonics and optoelectronics.

Halogen Bonding‐Enabled Stabilization of Copper(I) Cluster Scintillators in Aqueous Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of halogen bonding‐strengthened copper(I) cluster‐based X‐ray scintillators is developed, with higher lattice symmetry, reduced trap density, and enhanced stability in polar chemical environments surpassing the performance of halogen‐free counterparts and other conventional scintillators. Abstract Scintillators are essential in applications,

Solar Cycle Variations of GPS Amplitude Scintillation for the Polar Region

open access: yesSpace Weather, 2020
Global Positioning System (GPS) L1 amplitude data, obtained using the Canadian High Arctic Ionospheric Network (CHAIN) during the period 2008–2018, is used to study the seasonal and solar cycle dependence of high‐latitude amplitude scintillation.

Scintillation of thin tetraphenyl butadiene films under alpha particle excitation

open access: yes, 2010
The alpha induced scintillation of the wavelength shifter 1,1,4,4-tetraphenyl-1,3-butadiene (TPB) was studied to improve the understanding of possible surface alpha backgrounds in the DEAP dark matter search experiment.

Synthesis and Optical Properties of Single‐Crystalline Phosphors Gd3In2Ga3O12:RE3+ (RE = Nd3+ and Ho3+) Grown via the Optical Float Zone Method

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Nd3+‐ and Ho3+‐doped Gd3In2Ga3O12 single crystals have been successfully synthesized via the optical float zone method. Their structure and optical characterization demonstrate efficient narrow‐line 4f–4f emission, low cross‐relaxation, and bright photoluminescence, indicating their potential as advanced optical materials for photonic applications. The
