A Stabilized Scintillation Counter

IEEE Transactions on Nuclear Science, 1964
A gain stabilization system for use with a scintillation counter is described. The system uses a Po210 ? source sandwiched between two 0.020" thick discs of plastic phosphor as a reference light source, which is mounted between the NaI(Tl) crystal and the photomultiplier.

The Scintillation Counter

1952
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the performance of scintillation counter. The essential components of a scintillation counter are a phosphor crystal, a secondary emission multiplier, and some form of presentation device; for example, a pulse height selector and a pulse counter.

A large area gas proportional scintillation counter for balloon borne solar X-ray spectrometry

, 2002
A compact xenon filled gas proportional scintillation counter (GPSC) having a window area of 12.5 cm/sup 2/ coupled to low weight, low volume and low power associated electronics is described to be used in a balloon gondola to fly at high altitudes (30 ...

Gas scintillation counters [PDF]

open access: possible, 1959
Construction details of a 5" diameter 1.7 litre gas scintillation counter are given. The behaviour of the counter when containing He⁴ gas and a mixture of He⁴ and 10% Xe at various total pressures has been investigated. Two 5" photomultiplier tubes and a variety of different gas purifiers were tested in an attempt to obtain the best possible resolution.

The physics of the scintillation counter [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Scientific Instruments, 1955
The resolution and performance of scintillation counters used as energy spectrometers are limited by several factors due to the various physical processes involved. The spread in output pulse magnitude when detecting monoenergetic particles is, in the ideal case, due to the statistical fluctuations in the number of photoelectrons produced at the ...

Scintillation and Čerenkov Counters

1958
A scintillation or Cerenkov counter generally consists of three parts: the medium in which the light is produced by moving charged particles; a photomultiplier tube in which the light is converted to electrons which are then multiplied up to a detectable signal; and often, but not always, a light pipe to lead the light from the scintillant or Cerenkov ...

A liquid scintillation counter specifically designed for samples deposited on a flat matrix

, 1986
A prototype liquid scintillation counter has been designed to count samples deposited as a 6*16 array on a flat matrix. Applications include the counting of labelled cells processed by a cell harvester from 96-well microtitration plates onto glass fibre ...

Directional Scintillation Counter

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1958
A collimated scintillation counter was developed which employs bundles of pyrex capillaries filled with a liquid phosphor (xylene with terphenyl and POPOP). Two such counters were constructed and tested; one with 2.8-Mev neutrons, the other with 14-Mev neutrons. Directional ratios of R = 60 and axial efficiencies E = 0.1% were obtained. (D.E.B.)

The Scintillation Counter. I. The Existence of Plateaus

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1949
A method has been developed whereby inorganic phosphors can be mounted on a photo-multiplier tube in thin films. The ZnS:Ag phosphor is quite satisfactory for use in conjunction with the 931A photo-tube. Plateaus have been established similar to those associated with Geiger-Müller counter tubes and the associated circuits.

Characteristics of the Van Allen radiation zones as measured by the scintillation counter on Explorer VI

, 1961
A scintillation counter responding principally to direct electrons has been flown on the Explorer VI earth satellite in an elliptical orbit extending to 48,600 km. The instrument measured fluxes of electrons above 200 kev and protons above 2 Mev. After a
