The laser-based time calibration system for the MEG II pixelated Timing Counter [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Inst. and Methods in Physics Research, A 947 (2019) 162672, 2019
We have developed a new laser-based time calibration system for highly segmented scintillator counters like the MEG II pixelated Timing Counter (pTC), consisting of 512-centimeter scale scintillator counters read out by silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs).

Tribenzyl Organic Cations Carried Multidentate X‐Type Lewis Soft Base for High‐Performance Foldable Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes tribenzyl organic cation carried multidentate X‐type Lewis soft base to enhance adhesion and passivate defects simultaneously, aiming to achieve foldable and efficient perovskite nanocrystal‐based light‐emitting diodes. The resulting pure red F‐PeLEDs exhibit a recorded high EQE of 16.2% and robust mechanical properties to endure ...

Health effects of a ban on late‐night alcohol sales

open access: yesHealth Economics, Volume 32, Issue 1, Page 65-89, January 2023., 2023
Abstract This paper studies the impact of a ban on late‐night off‐premise alcohol sales between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in Germany. We use three large administrative data sets: (i) German diagnosis related groups‐Statistik, (ii) data from a large social health insurance, and (iii) Road Traffic Accident Statistics.

Ultrafast Superradiant Scintillation from Isolated Weakly Confined Perovskite Nanocrystals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Efficiency and scintillation velocity are critical for high‐energy and medical physics. These parameters, typically conflicting in conventional scintillators, are simultaneously optimized by exploiting the giant oscillator strength of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals, leading to radiatively accelerated (multi)excitonic emission with unity efficiency without ...

Evaluation of Scintillation Counter Detector Using Gamma Radiation for Gold Detection

open access: yesJournal of Techniques
The aim of this work is to evaluate the efficiency of a new gamma spectrometer technology using a scintillation counter detector. This technique can detect the backscattered gamma radiation emitted from the samples.

A time-resolution study with a plastic scintillator read out by a Geiger-mode Avalanche Photodiode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this work we attempt to establish the best time resolution attainable with a scintillation counter consisting of a plastic scintillator read out by a Geiger-mode Avalanche Photodiode. The measured time resolution is inversely proportional to the square root of the energy deposited in the scintillator, and scales to 18ps (sigma) at 1MeV.

Leveraging Grain Boundary Effects for Nanostructured Electrode Layers in Symmetric Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Nanocrystalline thin‐films of lanthanum chromite exhibit extraordinary properties of fast oxygen kinetics. These properties are due to the peculiar chemistry of grain boundaries and can be harnessed for fabricating symmetric electrochemical devices with self‐healing properties. Abstract While grain boundary engineering is attracting great interest as a

Isotope Techniques in Chemical Wastewater Treatment: Opportunities and Uncertainties

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this review, we would first introduce basic knowledge about isotopic compounds and then scrutinize the physical and chemical influence induced by isotope changes. Special attention will be paid to the uncertainties in explaining the isotope results.

Scintillation proximity assay for DNA binding by human p53

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2006
Many DNA binding proteins are known to regulate gene expression. When that binding is altered, a disease state can result. A common method for measuring DNA binding, namely electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) is often used but it is not amenable ...

Comparative Test of Novel Fluorescent Optical Antennas for LED‐ and Laser‐Based Optical Wireless Communications

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
New fluorescent optical antennas are realized and tested for diverse Optical Wireless Communication (OWC) applications. The fluorescent concentrator slabs, based on different organic fluorophores, convert and convey the digital data conveyed through intensity modulation of incoming light toward a small‐area photodiode.
