Wetland occupancy by duck broods in cropland‐dominated landscapes of the United States Prairie Pothole Region

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, Volume 87, Issue 2, February 2023., 2023
We evaluated how wetland occupancy by duck broods varied across crop‐dominated landscapes of the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) in the United States to inform conservation strategies in the face of widespread land use alterations and climate change. We found about 4 in 10 small wetlands in crop‐dominated landscapes within the PPR were used by duck broods

Multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode and wavelength shifting fibre readout of plastic scintillator counters of the EMMA underground experiment [PDF]

open access: yesNucl.Instrum.Meth.A610:419-422,2009, 2009
The results of a development of a scintillator counter with wavelength shifting (WLS) fibre and a multi-pixel Geiger-mode avalanche photodiode readout are presented. The photodiode has a metal-resistor-semiconductor layered structure and operates in the limited Geiger mode. The scintillator counter has been developed for the EMMA underground cosmic ray

Effects of spatially heterogeneous lakeside development on nearshore biotic communities in a large, deep, oligotrophic lake

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 67, Issue 12, Page 2649-2664, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Sewage released from lakeside development can reshape ecological communities. Nearshore periphyton can rapidly assimilate sewage‐associated nutrients, leading to increases of filamentous algal abundance, thus altering both food abundance and quality for grazers.

Development of a novel scintillation-trigger detector for the MTV experiment using aluminum-metallized film tapes [PDF]

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A 752 (2014) 47-53, 2014
A new type of a trigger-scintillation counter array designed for the MTV experiment at TRIUMF-ISAC has been developed, which uses aluminum-metallized film tape for wrapping to achieve the required assembling precision of $\pm$0.5 mm. The MTV experiment uses a cylindrical drift chamber (CDC) as the main electron-tracking detector.

Scintillation Response of 0D Cs3Cu2I5 Thin Layers to Light‐ and Heavy‐Ion Irradiation

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
Driven by increasing interest in uncovering the remarkable photoluminescence quantum yield of Cs3Cu2I5, polycrystalline thin layers are synthesized to investigate its radioluminescence response to energetic ions. Its spectroscopic capability is assessed in a wide range of ion mass and internal excitation processes are explored.

How songs from growing up and viewers' attachment styles affect video ads' effectiveness

open access: yesPsychology &Marketing, Volume 40, Issue 1, Page 209-233, January 2023., 2023
Abstract We propose that the positive effect of coming‐of‐age songs on ad effectiveness arises from a mediation process where the music‐evoked interpersonal memories of growing up stored in the brain and their accompanying emotions inevitably play a role, but not so straightforwardly as previously suggested.

Nanocrystal Compressive Residual Stresses: A Strategy to Strengthen the Bony Spines of Osteocytic and Anosteocytic Fish

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Advanced neoteleost fishbones, such as medaka, challenge bone adaptation strategies. While zebrafish bones contain osteocyte‐mediated porosity, medaka bones lack it, raising questions about alternative reinforcement mechanisms. Using advanced imaging, this study reveals higher residual compressive strains in medaka bone, suggesting an adaptation that ...
