Operation of a 1-Liter-Volume Gaseous Argon Scintillation Counter

open access: yes, 2009
We have built a gas-phase argon ionization detector to measure small nuclear recoil energies (< 10 keVee). In this paper, we describe the detector response to X-ray and gamma calibration sources, including analysis of pulse shapes, software triggers ...

First CNGS events detected by LVD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The CERN Neutrino to Gran Sasso (CNGS) project aims to produce a high energy, wide band $\nu_{\mu}$ beam at CERN and send it toward the INFN Gran Sasso National Laboratory (LNGS), 732 km away.

Fluorinated Carnitine Derivatives as Tools to Visualise Carnitine Transport and Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fluorinated carnitines, fluoromethyl carnitine (FMC) and [18F]fluoromethyl carnitine ([18F]FMC), are synthesised and established as powerful probes to interrogate carnitine biology. The multimodal detection facilitated by fluorine labelling, including 19F NMR, mass spectrometry, and positron emission tomography imaging, allowed for visualisation of ...

Arginine Methylation Antagonizes TEAD3‐Mediated Repression to Promote Osteogenic Differentiation by Disrupting RUNX2‐Sequestrating Condensates

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the unmethylated state, TEAD forms stable, repressive condensates that sequester the osteogenic master regulator RUNX2. Arginine methylation of TEAD at R55 acts as a molecular brake, dissolving these condensates to release RUNX2 and activate the osteogenic program.

The Scintillation Counters of the High-Energy Particle Detector of the China Seismo-Electromagnetic (CSES-02) Satellite

open access: yesRemote Sensing
The High-Energy Particle Detector (HEPD-02) is one of the scientific payloads of the China Seismo-Electromagnetic Satellite (CSES-02). The HEPD-02’s main purpose is to characterize the particle environment in the Earth’s vicinity, identifying sudden ...

Measuring Auxin Transport Capacity in Seedling Roots of Medicago truncatula

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2016
Measurement of auxin transport capacity provides quantitative data on the physiological machinery involved in auxin transport within plants. This technique is easy to perform and gives quick results. Radiolabelled auxin (indole-3-acetic-acid) is fed into

Microscale Mapping of Fiber Strain and Damage in Composite Wrinkled Laminates Using Computed Tomography Assisted Wide‐Angle X‐Ray Scattering

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study combines full‐field tomography with diffraction mapping to quantify radial (ε002$\varepsilon _{002}$) and axial (ε100$\varepsilon _{100}$) lattice strain in wrinkled carbon‐fiber specimens for the first time. Radial microstrain gradients (−14.5 µεMPa$\varepsilon \mathrm{MPa}$−1) are found to signal damage‐prone zones ahead of failure, which ...

Simple Method for Absolute Measurement of Pure β-emitters Using TDCR Liquid Scintillation Counter

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
TDCR (triple to double coincidence ratio) liquid scintillation technology is used widely in professional metrology laboratories for absolute measurement of the radioactivities of pure β-emitters.

Observation of the Dependence of Scintillation from Nuclear Recoils in Liquid Argon on Drift Field

open access: yes, 2013
We have exposed a dual-phase Liquid Argon Time Projection Chamber (LAr-TPC) to a low energy pulsed narrowband neutron beam, produced at the Notre Dame Institute for Structure and Nuclear Astrophysics to study the scintillation light yield of recoiling ...

Long-term operation of a multi-channel cosmic muon system based on scintillation counters with MRS APD light readout [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A Cosmic Ray Test Facility (CRTF) is the first large-scale implementation of a scintillation triggering system based on a new scintillation technique known as START.
