Enhancing Cycle Life in Superoxide‐Based Na–O2 Batteries by Reducing Interface Reactivity

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A new sodium–oxygen (Na–O2) battery is designed with highly active vanadium phosphide (VP) nanoparticles as a catalyst, an ether/ionic liquid‐based electrolyte, and an effective sodium bromide (NaBr) anode protection layer. This designed Na–O2 cell that produces NaO2 is able to reduce the interfacial reactivity between cell materials and the product to

Time resolution analysis of detectors based on plastic scintillators coupled to silicon photomultipliers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The performance of several trigger counters based on plastic scintillators with silicon photomultiplier readout is investigated with cosmic rays. Efficiency and time resolution are measured using digital waveform analysis. The obtained results are relevant for trigger subsystems of Multi-Purpose Detector (MPD) and Baryonic Matter at the Nuclotron (BM@N)

Concurrent Operando Neutron Imaging and Diffraction Analysis Revealing Spatial Lithiation Phase Evolution in an Ultra‐Thick Graphite Electrode

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The lithiation phases in an ultra‐thick graphite electrode are mapped operando as a function of electrode depth through a new method concurrently combining neutron imaging and diffraction. The results reveal the coexistence of lithiation phases during cycling as well as the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) formation and capacity loss through non ...

Gamma and neutron separation using emission wavelengths in Eu:LiCaI scintillators [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Scintillators have long been known as radiation detectors and are still used in various applications. Recently, scintillators containing $^6$Li have been developed as neutron detectors and have attracted attention. $^6$Li absorbs thermal neutrons and emits $\alpha$+$^3$H, which is promising as a neutron detector if it can be separated from background ...

New Transparent Rare‐Earth‐Based Hybrid Glasses: Synthesis, Luminescence, and X‐Ray Imaging Application

open access: yesAggregate, EarlyView.
A desolvation method below 140°C was reported for a rapid synthesis of RE(NO3)3(C5H2N4)2 hybrid glasses within an hour. The glasses containing the whole library of rare‐earth ions exhibited a high transparency, which provided an ideal matrix for the energy‐transfer investigation between organic linker and rare‐earth ions.

Protocol for in vivo measurement of basal and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in mouse tissues

open access: yesSTAR Protocols, 2023
Summary: Here, we present an in vivo protocol for measuring basal and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in tissues from mice. We describe steps for administering 2-deoxy-D-[1,2–3H]glucose in the presence or absence of insulin via intraperitoneal ...
