Single amino acid substitutions in the global regulator CodY can alter nutrient sensing and virulence regulation in Clostridioides difficile. We show that the CodY(Y146N) and CodY(V58A) variants display altered ligand binding and reduced promoter binding, leading to derepression of toxin regulatory pathways and increased virulence in vivo.

‘Chrystalline Talk’: Thomas Browne's Poetics of Concretion and Mineral Plain Style
ABSTRACT This article charts the figuration, both material and rhetorical, of mineral bodies in early modern natural philosophy, paying particular attention to the second book of Thomas Browne's Pseudodoxia Epidemica (1646). It argues that concretions (stony calculi and crystals formed through the aggregation of physical matter) make manifest a mineral

Terrestrial Gamma‐Ray Flash Following Intense Negative Return Stroke Observed With BIMAP‐3D
Abstract We report ground‐based observations of a terrestrial gamma‐ray flash (TGF) associated with a strong negative cloud‐to‐ground lightning strike (‐CG) which occurred near Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in New Mexico, USA. Gamma photons were detected by the Terrestrial High‐energy Observations of Radiation (THOR) instrument, developed at ...

Effects of plastic deformation on the properties of scintillation of Nal(Tl) crystal [PDF]
The large single crystals of NaI(Tl) were produced by Stockbarger's and Kyropoulos' methods. The most adequate conditions for the growth of these crystals were studied. The thallium distributions in the crystal were measured, and the relation between the

Reactor neutrino physics potentials of cryogenic pure-CsI crystal
This paper presents a world-leading scintillation light yield among inorganic crystals measured from a 0.5 kg pure-CsI detector operated at 77 Kelvin. Scintillation photons were detected by two 2-inch Hamamatsu SiPM arrays equipped with cryogenic front ...

Synthesis of Monazite‐Borosilicate Glass Composites by the Ceramic Method
A glass‐ceramic composite containing crystallites of La0.5Gd0.5PO4 (monazite) dispersed in a borosilicate glass matrix was synthesized using a one‐step ceramic synthesis method. ABSTRACT Glass‐ceramic composites are promising heterogeneous materials for the immobilization of high‐level nuclear waste.

Zr Doped GSO:Ce Single Crystals and Their Scintillation Performance [PDF]
Cerium doped Gd2 SiO5 (GSO:Ce) single crystal is used as a scintillator for Positron Emission Tomography (PET). GSO:Ce has a good balance of every scintillation properties, but the only disadvantage is the decreasing light output by coloring caused by a ...
