Sciuridae Fischer de Waldheim 1817

Family: Sciuridae Tristram (1884) reported the Asia Minor Ground Squirrel Spermophilus xanthoprymnus as “exceedingly abundant on the sandy and stony plains of the uplands of Moab and Gilead [Palestine]”; this species was omitted from his earlier paper (Tristram 1866).

Yushe Squirrels (Sciuridae, Rodentia)

Squirrels (Sciuridae) have been rarely recognized among surface finds of Yushe Basin. The sciurids described here are small samples of mainly isolated teeth recovered from the fossil deposits of Yushe Basin by screening in 1987 and 1988 with additions from 1991, but include six species from two subfamilies. They are Tamias cf. T. ertemtensis (Qiu 1991),

AbstractThe early developmental history of Sciuridae (squirrel family), from the ovarian egg to the establishment of the germ layers, was studied in fixed material comprising ova and embryos from six species of five genera. No significant differences were noted in the major processes of development in the six species.
