Comparison of flanged polypropylene scleral intraocular lens fixation with scleral sutured fixation
Canadian Journal of OphthalmologyTo compare the outcome of 2 intraocular lens (IOL) scleral fixation techniques: double-flanged polypropylene and Hoffman scleral pocket.Retrospective case series of all patients who underwent IOL scleral fixation by either the flange (flange group) or Hoffman scleral pocket (Hoffman group) techniques at the Kaplan Medical Center and the Edith Wolfson ...

Sutureless scleral fixation of intraocular lenses
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 1997A technique is presented in which pars plana fixation of a posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) is achieved by the transscleral passage of the haptics. The IOL used has three equidistant supple loops, each attached to an armed suture, which serve as haptics.

Scleral fixation using suture retrieval through a scleral tunnel
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2006Scleral fixation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) can be performed under the protection of a scleral flap. A variation of this technique uses a scleral tunnel for suture fixation to the eye. Passage of a double-armed suture through the roof of the scleral tunnel with subsequent retrieval of the suture ends through the external incision for tying ...

Scleral fixation without conjunctival dissection
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2006Scleral fixation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) and adjunctive capsular devices can be performed under the protection of a scleral flap. A modification of this technique uses a scleral pocket initiated through a peripheral clear corneal incision. Full-thickness passage of a double-armed suture through the scleral pocket and conjunctiva, with subsequent ...

Suture burial technique in scleral fixation
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2004The end of a scleral fixation suture may erode through the conjunctiva and become exposed. To avoid this, a scleral flap, autologous cornea, dura mater, or fascia lata patches have been used to cover the ends, and rotation of the knot into the tissue has been reported. An alternative technique to bury the end of the suture is described.

Complications of Scleral-Fixated Intraocular Lenses
Seminars in Ophthalmology, 2017Understanding the evolution of complications after scleral-fixated lens placement demonstrates advantageous surgical techniques and suitable candidates.A literature search in PubMed for several terms, including "scleral intraocular lens complication," yielded 17 relevant articles.Reviewing complication trends over time, lens tilt and suture erosion ...

To report a technique of intra-scleral fixation of the iris hooks for trans-scleral capsular bag fixation in patient with zonular dialysis. Two scleral flaps, two scleral tunnels and two sclerotomies were formed. The anterior capsule was captured and pulled by the iris hooks resulting in the IOL adopting an appropriate position at which point the iris ...

Double Pronged Scleral Fixation Forceps
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1960Firm scleral fixation is of prime importance when attempting to perform a McLean corneoscleral groove in preparation for cataract surgery. The same principle applies when a keratome entry in the anterior chamber is made, or in cases of glaucoma surgery, where an ab externo incision is desirable. If fixation of the scleral is made near the upper limbus,

Scleral-Fixated Intraocular Lenses-Reply
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1988In Reply. —Despite an extensive literature survey, we had not come across the article by Malbran and colleagues. 1 In their article they describe three surgical techniques that use lens guide sutures for transportation with or without permanent fixation of the intraocular lens haptics. Malbran et al do not mention it, but their lens guide sutures make

Ab externo scleral fixation of intraocular lens
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2012We describe an ab externo technique that facilitates IOL scleral fixation and reduces the risk associated with previous ab externo scleral fixation techniques. This technique uses a microvitreoretinal blade and an internal limiting membrane forceps to create sclerotomies and retrieve the suture, respectively.Dr.
