Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Sick Neonate Score as Predictor of Neonatal Mortality and Duration of Hospital Stay

open access: yesCHRISMED Journal of Health and Research
Background: Sick neonate score (SNS) is a simple clinical score that requires minimal basic equipment and expertise. It is utilized for the prediction of mortality among neonates. Objective: The objective of this study was to study the correlation of SNS

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

A silent case of aortic dissection: a case report

open access: yesEmergency Care Journal
Type B aortic dissection is a relatively rare clinical condition with, however, a significant clinical impact and therefore an early diagnosis is necessary.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Efficacy of POSSUM and P-POSSUM Scoring Systems in Predicting Outcomes of Emergency Gastrointestinal Surgeries

open access: yesOman Medical Journal
Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess morbidity and mortality outcomes using the physiological and operative severity score for the enumeration of mortality and morbidity (POSSUM) and Portsmouth POSSUM (P-POSSUM) scores in patients undergoing ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Breast Tumor Classification with Enhanced Transfer Learning Features and Selection Using Chaotic Map-Based Optimization

open access: yesInternational Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems
Among women, breast cancer remains one of the most dominant cancer types. In the year 2022, around 2,87,800 new cases were diagnosed, and 43,200 women faced mortality due to this disease.
