Scramjets and shock tunnels—The Queensland experience [PDF]
This article reports on the use of a shock tunnel to study the operation of scramjet powered configurations at sub-orbital velocities above 2 km/s. Thrust, as given by a net thrust equation, is used as a figure of merit throughout the study. After a short description of the shock tunnel used and its operating characteristics, experiments on the ...

Experimental Investigation on the Influence of Yaw Angle on the Inlet Performance at Mach 7
This paper presents the results of an extensive measurement campaign that was conducted with an two-dimensional hypersonic inlet in the Hypersonic Windtunnel H2K at the German Aerospace Center in Cologne in order to study the effects of angle of yaw on ...

Influence of Geometric Parameters on Intake Performance of 3D Ramp‐Type Scramjet Inlet
The methods based on the assumption of inviscid flow are typically used for the initial design of the scramjet inlet geometry, but the presence of a viscous boundary layer can degrade the validity of the results and lead to nonoptimal operation. This study explored the design space of three‐dimensional ramp‐type scramjet inlet geometry and investigated

Radical recombination in a hydrocarbon-fueled scramjet nozzle
To reveal the radical recombination process in the scramjet nozzle flow and study the effects of various factors of the recombination, weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) schemes are applied to solve the decoupled two-dimensional Euler equations ...

Thrust performance of the rocket-based combined-cycle engine under ejector mode
The Rocket-Based Combined-Cycle (RBCC) engine integrates the preponderance of ramjet and rocket engines. It can perform excellently at a lower Mach number than a ramjet while consuming less fuel than the rocket.

Radiation Modeling of a Hydrogen Fueled Scramjet [PDF]
against a three-dimensional ray tracing method. The radiative species considered are H2O and OH. The radiative heat ux is on the order of 10 kW/m 2 , which is 0.1-0.2% of the total convective wall heat ux. Flow cooling due to radiation is found to be on the order of 2 K.
