Nanolithography and manipulation of graphene using an atomic force microscope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We use an atomic force microscope (AFM) to manipulate graphene films on a nanoscopic length scale. By means of local anodic oxidation with an AFM we are able to structure isolating trenches into single-layer and few-layer graphene flakes, opening the ...

Capsaicin suppresses interleukin-31-induced itching partially involved in inhibiting the expression of dorsal root ganglion interleukin-31 receptor A in male mice

open access: yesNeurobiology of Pain, 2022
To elucidate the mechanisms underlying the antipruritic effect of capsaicin, we investigated how topical application of capsaicin (0.01, 0.1 and 1.0% w/v) affects spontaneous scratching in NC/Nga mice, inerleukin-31 (IL-31) induced in BALB/c mice, and IL-

YAP1::TFE3 mediates endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal plasticity in epithelioid hemangioendothelioma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The YAP1::TFE3 fusion protein drives endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndMT) plasticity, resulting in the loss of endothelial characteristics and gain of mesenchymal‐like properties, including resistance to anoikis, increased migratory capacity, and loss of contact growth inhibition in endothelial cells.

Mobility of Edge Dislocations in the Basal‐Slip System of Zinc [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
This paper presents the results of measurements of the velocities of 〈1210〉 (0001) edge dislocations in zinc as a function of applied shear stress. All tests were conducted at room temperature on 99.999% pure zinc monocrystals. Dislocations were revealed

Antipruritic Effect of Nalbuphine, a Kappa Opioid Receptor Agonist, in Mice: A Pan Antipruritic

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Antipruritic effects of kappa opioid receptor (KOR) agonists have been shown in rodent models of acute and chronic scratching (itchlike behavior). Three KOR agonists, nalfurafine, difelikefalin, and nalbuphine, are in clinical studies for antipruritic ...

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Measurement of Nocturnal Scratching in Patients with Pruritus Using a Smartwatch: Initial Clinical Studies with the Itch Tracker App.

open access: yesActa Dermato-Venereologica, 2019
Three clinical studies were conducted to test a newly-developed app for smartwatches, which included an algorithm to measure nocturnal scratching using acceleration data.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

MgB2 radio-frequency superconducting quantum interference device prepared by atomic force microscope lithography

open access: yes, 2007
A new method of preparation of radio-frequency superconducting quantum interference devices on MgB2 thin films is presented. The variable-thickness bridge was prepared by a combination of optical lithography and of the scratching by an atomic force ...
