Force on a Piezoelectric Screw Dislocation
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1990A screw dislocation in a hexagonal crystal exhibiting piezoelectric behavior is analyzed in the framework of linear elasticity theory. Considered is a straight dislocation with the Burgers vector normal to the isotropic basal plane. In addition to having a discontinuous displacement and a discontinuous electric potential across the slip plane, the ...

Lift forces of screws in shear flows
Physics of Fluids, 2007We have measured the forces in the vorticity direction experienced by chiral screws in shear flows, with the Reynolds number at the order of 103. The measured force directions depend on the screw handedness, being in the positive vorticity direction for left-handed screws and opposite for right-handed ones.

Determining the forces on the screws in two- and three-bearing two-screw pumps
Russian Engineering Research, 2010Various methods of determining the forces on screws with different numbers of turns are considered. Formulas are derived for two- and three-bearing screw pumps.

Kinematics and force interaction of screw shaft with variable screw course
2008The screw shafts with spiral blade are using in practice are not satisfied to modern demands in industry. For effective smoothing of sheet materials’ creases are necessary uniformly and simultaneously to smooth creases by screw blades from middle site toward ends of the shaft.

Screw Pull-out Force is Dependent on Screw Orientation in an Anterior Cervical Plate Construct
Journal of Spinal Disorders & Techniques, 2007Two common justifications for orienting cervical screws in an angled direction is to increase pull-out strength and to allow use of longer screws. This concept is widely taught and has guided implant design. Fixed versus variable angle systems may offer strength advantages.

Effect of bone quality on the forces generated by compression screws
Journal of Biomechanics, 1999Internal fixation of the fractured scaphoid bone is used to promote union between bone fragments and to decrease wrist immobilization. Headless screws are commonly used because they minimize interference with articular surfaces and reduce tissue irritation and immobilization.

A preliminary analysis of the forces in screws in tibial fracture fixation
Journal of Medical Engineering & Technology, 1977If a fracture of the tibia is incorrectly reduced and a plate fixed across the fracture site, then all of the load during subsequent weight bearing can be considered to be taken by the screws fixing the plate to the bone. An analysis of this extreme situation and determination of the magnitude of the consequent forces on the screws indicate that the ...

Torsion-axial force characteristics of SR-PLLA screws
Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, 1997The torsion axial-force characteristics of biodegradable screws are central to their ability to generate interfragmentary compression when used as lag screws. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the torsion-axial force characteristics of prototype self-reinforced poly-L-lactide (SR-PLLA) screws with conventional titanium screws.

Influence of different agents on the preload force of implant abutment screws
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2021Screw loosening is a common problem in implant dentistry; however, information is sparse on the influence of different fluids on the screw threads. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate the influence of 4 different fluids and agents (saliva, blood, chlorhexidine [CHX] gel, and special sealing silicone) on the preload force of abutment ...

The force between two screw dislocations
Philosophical Magazine A, 1986Abstract The configuration of two like parallel screw dislocations is calculated using second-order elasticity. Whereas in the case of an edge dislocation interacting with a parallel line of dilatation there is a relative displacement of the lines of the two defects, equal to that which would be produced if the configurational force between them was a ...
