Coating Artificial Spider Silk Fiber with Magnetic FeCo: An Effective Strategy for Creating a Flexible Magneto‐Responsive Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An original method is presented for producing artificial spider silk fibers with magnetic and magnetomechanical responsiveness, which consists in coating them with a nanometer‐thick layer of FeCo alloy by sputtering deposition. The challenge of combining organic materials and inorganic magnetic nanostructures is addressed, thus taking a step forward ...

Anisotropic charge dynamics in detwinned Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate the optical conductivity as a function of temperature with light polarized along the in-plane orthorhombic $a$- and $b$-axes of Ba(Fe$_{1-x}$Co$_x$)$_2$As$_2$ for $x$=0 and 2.5$\%$ under uniaxial pressure.

Solution‐Processed Two‐Dimensional Indium Oxide on Sodium‐Embedded Alumina for Reconfigurable Optoelectronic Synaptic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Wafer‐scale two‐dimensioanl In2Se3 oxidized into InOx on sodium‐embedded beta‐alumina enables multifunctional reconfigurable electronics. Sodium ions accumulate within distinct spatial distribution under drain‐controlle and gate‐controlled operation. Drain‐control operation gives controllability of ultraviolet‐driven optoelectronic synaptic conductance

Performance of shallow anchor in ice-rich silt [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Thesis (M.S.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2014Shallow anchor systems have been widely used for decades due to their time and cost efficiency. Yet when it comes to cold regions like Alaska, new challenges caused by the harsh environment need to be ...

A Tri‐Culture Heart‐on‐a‐Chip Platform With iPSC‐Derived Cardiac Cells for Predictive Cardiotoxicity Testing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents the first entirely isogenic heart‐on‐chip, unifying cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells from a single iPSC source. The platform reveals a critical biological insight: the endothelium actively shields cardiac tissue from drug‐induced toxicity, challenging the predictive accuracy of conventional, avascular models for ...

A new teaching concept for axially loaded piles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
It is a common feature of teaching methodologies to divide the content into modules for lectures or book sections. However, these divisions are often not intrinsic to the real problems.

HISTORICAL STUDY ON IRON PILE FOUNDATION AND SCREW PILES

open access: yesDoboku Gakkai Ronbunshu, 2003

Analytical Solution for Vertical Vibration Response of Screw Piles Considering Three-Dimensional Wave Effect in Soil

open access: yesShanghai Jiaotong Daxue xuebao
By modeling the soil as a three-dimensional axisymmetric medium and considering the three-dimensional wave effects within it, a theoretical study is conducted on the frequency domain characteristics of the longitudinal vibration of threaded piles in ...

Pile Model Tests Using Strain Gauge Technology

open access: yesStudia Geotechnica et Mechanica, 2015
Ordinary pile bearing capacity tests are usually carried out to determine the relationship between load and displacement of pile head. The measurement system required in such tests consists of force transducer and three or four displacement gauges.
