The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Tidal energy machines: A comparative life cycle assessment
Marine energy in the UK is currently undergoing a period of exponential growth in terms of development and implementation. The current installed tidal energy capacity of around 4MW is expected to rise to provide up to 20% of the UK’s electricity demand ...

Effect of cavities on the behaviour of model pile under axial loading in sand [PDF]
Presence of cavities in soils is an important area of interest within the field of geotechnical engineering. A better understanding of the behaviour of such soils, particularly in locations where the presence of gypsum deposits is apparent, will have a ...

Review of torque models for offshore helical piles [PDF]
Helical (or screw) piles, sometimes defined as anchors, are a piled system consisting of one or multiple helices welded along the shaft. Piles are installed by applying a torque to the shaft.

Bioinspired Shape‐Memory Hook Fasteners With Programmable Interlocking and Silent Release
Bioinspired hook fasteners made from epoxy shape‐memory polymers are shown to switch between strong, secure attachment and gentle, silent release when heated. By combining programmable geometry and material response, these adaptive fasteners outperform commercial systems in strength and noise control, enabling new solutions for robotics, medical ...

Pile penetration in crushable soils:Insights from micromechanical modelling [PDF]
A 3D discrete element model (DEM) was used to simulate calibration chamber experiments of a cone shaped tip pile penetrating into crushable granular media. Both monotonic and cyclic jacking are considered.

Revolving rivers in sandpiles: from continuous to intermittent flows
In a previous paper [Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 014501 (2003)], the mechanism of "revolving rivers" for sandpile formation is reported: as a steady stream of dry sand is poured onto a horizontal surface, a pile forms which has a river of sand on one side owing
