Dyakonov-Tamm wave at the planar interface of a chiral sculptured thin film and an isotropic dielectric material [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Eur. Opt. Soc.: Rapid Pub., Vol. 2, article no. 07021, 2007, 2007
Surface waves, named here as Dyakonov-Tamm waves, can exist at the planar interface of an isotropic dielectric material and a chiral sculptured thin film (STF). Due to the periodic nonhomogeneity of a chiral STF, the range of the refractive index of the isotropic material is smaller but the range of the propagation direction in the interface plane is ...

From “Negro Sculpture” to “African Sculpture” [PDF]

open access: yesCritique d’art, 2015
This year, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Negerplastik, a pioneering essay by Carl Einstein on African art (1915), the Jacqueline Chambon publishing house is re-issuing the translation previously published at L’Harmattan by Liliane Meffre (1998), rounding it off with Einstein’s second essay on the same subject: La Plastique ...

Multiple trains of same-color surface plasmon-polaritons guided by the planar interface of a metal and a sculptured nematic thin film. Part IV: Canonical problem [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nanophotonics, Vol. 4, 043505 (25 February 2010), 2010
The canonical problem of the propagation of surface-plasmon-polariton (SPP) waves localized to the planar interface of a metal and a sculptured nematic thin film (SNTF) that is periodically nonhomogeneous along the direction normal to the interface was formulated.

Sculptural substance [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Writing in Creative Practice, 2014
Abstract This interview took place inside the National Arts Education Archive at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (NAEA) in November 2014. Whilst there is a necessary focus on Hester Reeve’s most recent project YMEDACA – a re-mapping of Yorkshire Sculpture Park through the features of Plato’s ‘Academos’ – the dialogue also moves its way through ...

The Mathematics of Fels Sculptures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We give a purely mathematical interpretation and construction of sculptures rendered by one of the authors, known herein as Fels sculptures. We also show that the mathematical framework underlying Ferguson's sculpture, {\it The Ariadne Torus}, may be considered a special case of the more general constructions presented here.

Reading Victorian Sculpture

open access: yes, 2016
This introduction reflects on reading sculpture in Victorian culture, and in Victorian studies. How did the Victorians read sculpture? How should we read it today?

Interactive 3D Face Stylization Using Sculptural Abstraction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Sculptors often deviate from geometric accuracy in order to enhance the appearance of their sculpture. These subtle stylizations may emphasize anatomy, draw the viewer's focus to characteristic features of the subject, or symbolize textures that might not be accurately reproduced in a particular sculptural medium, while still retaining fidelity to the ...

Nano-sculptured thin film thickness variation with incidence angle [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Optoelectronics and Advanced Materials 6 (2004) 1263-1268, 2004
In-situ monitoring and calibration of nano-sculptured thin film thickness is a critical problem due to substrate tilt angle dependent porosity and mass flux. In this letter we present an analytical model for thickness dependence on fabrication parameters for nano-sculptured films.

Sculptures in S^3 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
We construct a number of sculptures, each based on a geometric design native to the three-dimensional sphere. Using stereographic projection we transfer the design from the three-sphere to ordinary Euclidean space. All of the sculptures are then fabricated by the 3D printing service Shapeways.
