New phagotrophic euglenoid species (new genus Decastava; Scytomonas saepesedens; Entosiphon oblongum), Hsp90 introns, and putative euglenoid Hsp90 pre-mRNA insertional editing [PDF]
We describe three new phagotrophic euglenoid species by light microscopy and 18S rDNA and Hsp90 sequencing: Scytomonas saepesedens; Decastava edaphica; Entosiphon oblongum. We studied Scytomonas and Decastava ultrastructure. Scytomonas saepesedens feeds when sessile with actively beating cilium, and has five pellicular strips with flush joints and ...

Occurrence is reported from the region of the city of São Paulo, southern Brazil, of two euglenoid flagellates (Euglenophyceae). These are very rare, and thus very poorly known members of the class: Scytomonas major (Berliner) Lemmermann and Scytomonas ...

Molecular phylogenetics of sessile Dolium sedentarium, a petalomonad euglenid
Abstract The euglenids are a species‐rich group of flagellates with varying modes of nutrition that can be found in diverse habitats. Phagotrophic members of this group gave rise to phototrophs and hold the key to understanding the evolution of euglenids as a whole, including the evolution of complex morphological characters like the euglenid pellicle.

Revisions to the Classification, Nomenclature, and Diversity of Eukaryotes
Abstract This revision of the classification of eukaryotes follows that of Adl et al., 2012 [J. Euk. Microbiol. 59(5)] and retains an emphasis on protists. Changes since have improved the resolution of many nodes in phylogenetic analyses. For some clades even families are being clearly resolved.

On sexual reproduction in euglenoids, a tribute to Berthe Biecheler
Sexual reproduction in euglenoid flagellates is poorly known. The most recent report appears to be by Mignot from 1962 in a species of the rather unusual heterotrophic genus Scytomonas. We recently came across a paper by Biecheler from 1937, in which she
