Globally widespread weeds show preadaptation to non‐analogue climates: a common garden approach

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Climatic niche shifts have been documented for plant species introduced into new regions, however the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Niche shifts into novel climates are particularly difficult to predict as previous occurrence data cannot reveal whether these novel climates are within species' fundamental niche limits.

Greater future range expansions in alien than native ant species

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
There is growing concern that many species may not be able to track suitable conditions under climate change and suffer range contractions as a result. At the same time, alien species introduced to novel geographic ranges are often assumed to benefit from climate change.

Asymmetric transferability of trait–environment relationships between native and exotic plant species in Singaporean forests differing in land‐use history

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Functional traits allow ecologists to synthesise general rules of community assembly. In joint species distribution modelling, traits are increasingly used to explain species–environment relationships, with the intention of being able to generalise predictions to other species in other systems.

Mechanistic insights into gut microbe derived siderophores and PHD2 interactions with implications for HIF-1α stabilization

open access: yesScientific Reports
In oxygen-deprived conditions, cells respond by activating adaptive mechanisms to bolster their survival and protect tissue integrity. A key player in this process is the HIF-1α signaling cascade, meticulously regulated by Prolyl Hydroxylase Domain 2 ...
