Simulation and Analysis of Sea Floods in the Don River Delta
Russian Meteorology and Hydrology, 2018Storm surges and wind waves in the Taganrog Bay (the Sea of Azov) are simulated with the ADCIRC+SWAN numerical model, and the mechanisms of the Don River delta flooding are analyzed. It is demonstrated that the most intensive flooding of the Don River delta occurs in case of southwestern wind with the speed of not less than 15 m/s.

Lessons Learned from the North Sea Flooding Disaster in the Netherlands, 1953
2013During the night of 31 January 1953, a north-westerly windstorm hit the coastal regions around the southern parts of the North Sea in countries such as the Netherlands and the UK (see Figure 14.1). The water was pushed up against the coast by more than three metres above the normal high tide (see Figure 14.2).

<p>An objective method for tracking pathways of cyclone centres over Europe was developed and applied to the ERA-Interim reanalysis atmospheric data (1979-2014). The method was used to determine trajectories of those Mediterranean cyclones which generated extreme sea levels along the northern and the eastern Adriatic coast during the ...

Abstract Due to its geographical position, and because it was built at sea level, Venice is extremely sensitive to climate changes and, in the future, risks being submerged as a consequence of the expansion of oceanic water in response to global warming. A key problem is the increasing frequency of storm surges with the sea flooding the city (locally

Effect of Embanking on River and Sea Floods
1987The paper deals with the effects of embanking on floods in the nontidal reach of a river as well as in the tidal reach. These effects, often called “side-effects”, are of various kinds: hydraulic effects, morphological effects and effects on the water management of the land areas.

The timing of the Black Sea flood event: Insights from modeling of glacial isostatic adjustment
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2016Abstract We present a suite of gravitationally self-consistent predictions of sea-level change since Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) in the vicinity of the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits that combine signals associated with glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) and the flooding of the Black Sea.

Environmental hazard and migration intentions in a coastal area in Ghana: a case of sea flooding
Population and Environment, 2017Recently, there has been significant debate about whether ‘environmental migration’ can constitute a form of adaptation to environmental change, as opposed to forced or flight migration. The Foresight Report on Migration and Environmental Change (2011) suggested environmental factors are one driver of migration, as well as political, social, economic ...
