Glacial isostatic adjustment modelling: historical perspectives, recent advances, and future directions [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Surface Dynamics, 2018
Glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) describes the response of the solid Earth, the gravitational field, and the oceans to the growth and decay of the global ice sheets.

Enhanced Li‐Ion Battery Performance with Hybrid MXene/GnR Electrodes: Heterojunctions and Engineered Architectures Supported by DFT Mechanistic Studies for Improved Rate Performance, Stability & Capacity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lithium‐ion batteries (LIBs) remain central to energy storage but suffer from slow ion transport and degradation. Here, we present a binder‐free Ti3C2Tx MXene/GnR hybrid electrode with a porous 3D architecture formed via freeze casting. The structure enhances conductivity, ion transport, and stability, delivering 401 mAh/g, ∼97% efficiency, and 92 ...

No way out? The double-bind in seeking global prosperity alongside mitigated climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In a prior study, I introduced a simple economic growth model designed to be consistent with general thermodynamic laws. Unlike traditional economic models, civilization is viewed only as a well-mixed global whole with no distinction made between ...

Furan‐Substituted Phosphine‐Oxide as an Efficient Interfacial Modifier for Wide‐Bandgap Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report phosphine‐oxide interlayers for wide‐bandgap perovskite solar cells, in which tuned P = O Lewis basicity enables selective passivation of buried NiOx/perovskite interfaces and introduces interfacial dipoles that strengthen the built‐in field.

A 180-Million-Year Record of Sea Level and Ice Volume Variations from Continental Margin and Deep-Sea Isotopic Records [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2011
The geologic record provides constraints on the rates, amplitudes, and mechanisms controlling globally averaged (eustatic) and relative (eustatic plus subsidence/uplift) changes of sea level on various time scales.

AMS measurements of cosmogenic and supernova-ejected radionuclides in deep-sea sediment cores

open access: yes, 2013
Samples of two deep-sea sediment cores from the Indian Ocean are analyzed with accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) to search for traces of recent supernova activity around 2 Myr ago.

Giant Intrinsic Chirality Amplification of Aqueous Lead Halide Perovskite Nanocrystals via H‐Bond Driven Self‐Assembly Superstructures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Water‐assisted monoclinic CsPbBr3 transformation strategy is applied for synthesizing aqueous CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 nanocrystals with superior water‐repellent and excellent optical property. Low temperature enhanced hydrogen bonding network self‐assembled CsPbBr3/CsPb2Br5 nanocrystals into asymmetric superstructures, which exhibit notable circularly ...

Autumn pauses in Arctic-wide sea-ice expansion

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
In a typical year, Arctic sea-ice extent (SIE) exhibits uninterrupted growth in autumn (October–December), but on some rare occasions (13 times 1979–2023), that expansion has paused for at least 6 days.

Snow effects on brash ice and level ice growth

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology
Brash ice formation and accumulation occur at a faster rate in ship channels, harbours and turning areas compared to the surrounding level ice. Accurate prediction of brash ice thickness plays an important role in addressing operational challenges and ...
