Interpretation of recent trends in Antarctic sea ice concentration

Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, 2011
We investigate seasonal trends in sea ice concentration and the relative contributions of the Antarctic Oscillation (AAO), the Pacific-South American two modes (PSA1 and PSA2), and the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). The summer range of the trend in the Antarctic sea ice is the largest, from −83.8% to 59.6% per 29 yr over the period of 1979 ...

An algorithm to measure sea ice concentration with microwave radiometers

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1985
An algorithm is developed which uses two microwave radiometer channels to estimate quantitative fractions of first‐year and multiyear sea ice types. The algorithm is applied to data obtained from satellite sensors, and the data trends are used to refine values of the emissivities.

Sensitivity of multisensor estimates of sea ice type concentration

IGARSS 2000. IEEE 2000 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Taking the Pulse of the Planet: The Role of Remote Sensing in Managing the Environment. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37120), 2002
Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and multichannel passive microwave imagers are extensively for polar remote sensing. Individual sensor exploitation methods are maturing as evidenced by the exploitation processing development of both ERS-1 and RADARSAT, led by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Variability of sea ice thickness and concentration in the twentieth century

2009
Regular measurements of Arctic ice thickness began approximately in the middle of the 1930s in the vicinity of a number of polar stations, some of which were closed in the 1990s. To investigate the changes in landfast ice thickness for this study, we chose 11 stations with approximately equal lengths of observational time series. Five of these stations
