The Distribution of Lamprey GnRH-III in Brains of Adult Sea Lampreys (Petromyzon marinus)
General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2000In the sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus, two forms of GnRH, lamprey GnRH-I and -III, have been demonstrated to be neurohormones regulating the pituitary-gonadal axis. The objective of the present study was to determine the distribution of lamprey GnRH-III in the brains of adult sea lampreys and to compare it to the distribution of lamprey GnRH-I.

Biological characteristics of adult sea lampreys, Petromyzon marinus, in the Great Lakes changed in response to lamprey and prey abundance and the chemical control program. Sea lampreys collected as early as 1947, through 1978, from southern Lake Superior, northwestern Lake Michigan, the Ocqueoc River and Canadian shore of Lake Huron, and the Humber ...

Trigeminal sensory neurons of the sea lamprey
Journal of Comparative Physiology ? A, 1978Intracellular recordings were made from neurons of the trigeminal sensory ganglia of young adult sea lampreys. Receptive fields were mapped, and four classes of sensory cells were identified. Touch cells gave rapidly adapting responses to indentation of the skin. Pressure cells gave slowly adapting responses to indentation of the skin.

Cost-effective integrated pest management of sea lampreys requires good assessment information. Assessment of sea lamprey populations is used to inform decisions about which control methods to use, as well as where and when to apply them. Additionally, assessment data are used to evaluate the performance of past management actions.

Abstract The Sea Lamprey Petromyzon marinus control program in the Laurentian Great Lakes is one of the longest-running and most successful invasive species suppression programs in the world. Although several techniques are used to suppress Sea Lamprey, the control program relies heavily on regular application of lampricide to kill ...

Host-Size Selection by Parasitic Sea Lampreys
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1991Abstract When 171 sea lampreys Petromyzon marinus were each offered a onetime choice of one large and two small lake trout Salvelinus namaycush, the ratio of their attacks (49.1%:27.5%: 23.4%) was similar to the ratio of host surface areas (51.4%:26.3%:22.3%) in laboratory tests conducted over 9 months in 1988–1989.
