Sea Surface Roughness and Drag Coefficient as Functions of Neutral Wind Speed
Abstract Near the surface, it is commonly believed that the behavior of the (turbulent) atmospheric flow can be well described by a constant stress layer. In the case of a neutrally stratified surface layer, this leads to the well-known logarithmic wind profile that determines the relation between near-surface wind speed and magnitude of

SAR Speckle as a Proxy of Sea Surface Wind Speed
In this paper, a new simple and effective methodology, based on the K–distribution statistical modeling of speckle over sea surface backscattering, is applied on a large dataset of single– look complex (SLC) VV–polarized C–band Sentinel–1 SAR scenes to evaluate the sensitivity of speckle–related parameters, i.

Surveying sea surface effect in satellite altimeter-derived wind speed
To improve sea surface wind speed in coastal regions, we used nadir satellite altimeter measurements in the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea. With combining normalized radar cross section for two bands of satellite altimeter measurements and significant wave

Correlation between sea surface temperature and wind speed in Greenland Sea and their relationships with NAO variability [PDF]
The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is one of the major causes of many recent changes in the Arctic Ocean. Generally, it is related to wind speed, sea surface temperature (SST), and sea ice cover.

Hub height ocean winds over the North Sea observed by the NORSEWinD LiDAR array : measuring techniques, quality control and data management [PDF]
In the North Sea, an array of wind profiling wind lidars were deployed mainly on offshore platforms. The purpose was to observe free stream winds at hub height.

Correction of WindSat sea surface wind speed under rain
Abstract To improve the accuracy of sea surface wind speed under rain based on data obtained from the U.S. spaceborne fully polarimetric microwave radiometer (WindSat), a wind speed correction model based on a statistical algorithm is constructed. First, the coupled samples from 2003 to 2014 are considered as the training sample set, and

Cauchy‐Matern Model of Sea Surface Wind Speed at the Lake Worth, Florida [PDF]
We study the Cauchy‐Matern (CM) process with long‐range dependence (LRD). The closed form of its power spectrum density (PSD) function is given. We apply it to model the autocovariance function (ACF) and the PSD of the sea surface wind speed (wind speed for short) observed in the Lake Worth, Florida, over the 1984–2006 period.

A two-parameter wind speed algorithm for Ku-band altimeters [PDF]
Globally distributed crossovers of altimeter and scatterometer observations clearly demonstrate that ocean altimeter backscatter correlates with both the near-surface wind speed and the sea state.
