Endogenous Engineering Reprograms Extracellular Vesicles for Enhanced Therapeutic Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review explains how Extracellular vesicles‐producing cells can be endogenously engineered to load therapeutic proteins and nucleic acids. We summarize physiological and genetic strategies that harness native sorting pathways for selective cargo loading.

The 'presence' of absent seafarers: predicaments of Chinese seafarer-partners [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper examines the difficulties experienced by a group of relatively young seafarer-partners. Drawing upon online observation and interview data, it suggests that these seafarer-partners suffer emotional loneliness, stigmatization and social ...

Advances and Perspectives in Graphene‐Based Quantum Dots Enabled Neuromorphic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Graphene‐based QDs are zero‐dimensional carbon nanomaterials with pronounced quantum confinement and tunable electronic structures. Herein, we summarize their synthesis strategies and functionalization methods, and highlight their functional roles and operating mechanisms in devices, as well as recent advances in neuromorphic electronics. We anticipate

Seafarers' participation in safety management on board cargo ship [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The paper considers the importance of seafarers’ participation in the management of self-regulated Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) in the shipping industry. It points to the ways in which the concept of participation is understood differently within

DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM Analyses Implicate the Critical Role of RNA Structural Dynamics in Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus Pathogenicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RNA structural profiling of Turnip Yellow Mosaic Virus by DMS‐MaPseq and DREEM analyses uncover that viral genome‐wide RSS is highly complicated and heterogeneous, with alternative RSSs widely distributed across the genome. Notably, the viral 3’ tRNA‐like structure adopts alternative conformations in vivo.

Extreme‐Thickness Meta‐Membrane for Controlling Terahertz Vectorial Beams

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We propose ultra‐thin (λ/30) transmissive terahertz metasurfaces combining near‐field resonant and detour phases in coupled‐slit meta‐atoms, enabling continuous phase and polarization control beyond conventional designs. Based on leaky‐mode theory, scalar and vectorial terahertz Bessel beams at 0.39 THz are experimentally demonstrated, with ...

Seafarers and growing environmental concerns: to comply or not to comply - choices and practices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper reports on my tracking of the mobility and multiplicity of seafarers’ perceptions in their journey from the normality of ‘dumping at sea’ practices to more responsible environmental behaviours.

A Phase‐Resolved Geometric Deep Learning Framework Maps Structural Determinants of Disease‐Associated Protein Aggregation and Guides Suppressor Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SKALE 2.0 maps disease‐associated protein aggregation as a phase‐resolved structural process, linking mutation‐induced geometric perturbations to nucleation, elongation, and suppressor design. Across neurodegenerative proteins, the framework reveals cryptic aggregation vulnerabilities, separates phase‐concordant and phase‐switching mutations, and ...
