Sealing Effects of Squeeze Air Film
Journal of Tribology, 1986The sealing effects of squeeze air film were analyzed experimentally and theoretically. The air flow rate and the sealed pressure were measured in a squeeze face seal. The air flow rate can be expressed as the difference between the flow rate by the pumping and the flow rate by the leakage.

Elastohydrodynamic Effects in a Clearance Seal
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1970Abstract An elastohydrodynamic solution for a high-pressure, low-clearance metal seal is presented. The fluid flow is assumed to satisfy Reynolds equation of hydrodynamic lubrication, and the deformation of the shaft and the seal is governed by the linear theory of elasticity.

The Effect of Seal Width on Regenerator Effectiveness
Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 1993The effect of axial conduction on regenerator effectiveness has been studied in the past under the assumption of zero seal width. The effect of axial conduction coupled with finite seal width is presented in this paper. A method for calculating effectiveness assuming axial conduction and finite seal width is presented.

Effects of Lubricants on Seal Elastomers
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1987<div class="htmlview paragraph">Oil Resistant elastomers are used in a wide variety of applications for the retention of lubricant and/or the exclusion of contaminants. These elastomers are formulated to produce specific static and dynamic properties.

Effect of Surface Sealing on Infiltration
Transactions of the ASAE, 1981ABSTRACT The effects of surface sealing on infiltration were dem-onstrated by numerical solution of Richards' equa-tion. Three conditions were examined: (a) no surface seal formation, (b) gradual surface seal formation under the action of rainfall, and (c) a well-established stable sur-face seal.

Thermosyphon Effects for Pump Seal Cooling
Tribology Transactions, 1993The results of an analytical and experimental study are presented. They can be applied in design calculations for cooling systems for mechanical seals in hot process pumps. The thermosyphon effect is caused by buoyancy in a liquid-filled system with a heated chamber at the bottom and a cooler on the top.

Squeeze Effects in Radial Face Seals
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980Squeeze effects in a liquid lubricated radial face seal are analyzed. The analysis considers face misalignment with both axial and angular vibrations of the primary seal ring. Translational, rotational, and cross-coupled damping coefficients of the fluid film are derived analytically from a solution of the Reynolds equation utilizing the narrow seal ...
