Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Orthogonal Test and Regression Analysis on the Sealing Performance of Composite-type Ram BOP Packing Unit

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2020
The sealing structure of the rubber packing unit of the ram BOP for snubbing operation mostly uses composite sealing. The material properties of the rubber matrix and wear-resistant block both affect the sealing performance of the rubber core. To analyze

Evaluation of the ultrasonic sealing performance of flexible films with polyolefin seal layer

open access: yes, 2017
Recent studies have shown advantages of ultrasonic sealing over heat conductive sealing, namely sealing through contamination, decreased energy consumption, no need for thick peel layers. Up to now there is no efficient systematic methodology to determine the optimal settings for the ultrasonic sealing of flexible films.

Incorporation of Selenium into Sol–Gel‐Derived Bioactive Glass: Influence on Glass Structure, Bioactivity, and its Selective Cytotoxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Selenium was incorporated into a sol–gel‐derived bioactive glass to enable sustained therapeutic ion release. The selenium‐containing glass preserved bioactivity while selectively inducing cytotoxicity in osteosarcoma cells and maintaining osteoblastic viability.

Performance Study of Thermal Expansion in Magnetic Fluid Seals for Large Centrifuges

open access: yesLubricants
During the operation of the magnetic fluid sealing device, a large amount of heat is generated due to the viscous friction of the magnetic fluid, causing the shaft to deform and thus affecting the sealing effect. This paper explores the thermal expansion

Development of sprayed ceramic seal systems for turbine gas path sealing [PDF]

open access: yes
A ceramic seal system is reported that employs plasma-sprayed graded metal/ceramic yttria stabilized zirconium oxide (YSZ). The performance characteristics of several YSZ configurations were determined through rig testing for thermal shock resistance ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Study on the Sealing Performance of Flexible Pipe End-Fittings Considering the Creep Behavior of PVDF Material at Different Temperatures

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Current designs of sealing systems for non-adhesive flexible pipe end-fittings primarily address short-term loading conditions, often overlooking the creep behavior of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and the material used in the sealing layer.
