Condensation Risk – Impact of Improvements to Part L and Robust Details on Part C -Interim report number 7: Final report on project fieldwork [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
This report sets out, in draft1, the results of the fieldwork phase of research into the impacts of the 2002 revisions to Part L of the building regulations (Approved Document L1 - DTLR, 2001), and the adoption of Robust Details (RDs - DEFRA 2001) on the

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

Harnessing Non‐Covalent Protein–Protein Interaction Domains for Production of Biocatalytic Materials Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Non‐covalent protein–protein interactions mediated by SH3, PDZ, or GBD domains enable the self‐assembly of stable and biocatalytically active hydrogel materials. These soft materials can be processed into monodisperse foams that, once dried, exhibit enhanced mechanical stability and activity and are easily integrated into microstructured flow ...

Variable friction secondary seal for face seals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Vibration and stability of a primary seal ring is controlled by a secondary seal system. An inflatable bladder which forms a portion of the secondary seal varies the damping applied to this seal ring.

Defects Dynamic in Photo‐Excited CeO2 and their Influence on CO2 Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy study under light excitation is presented to track the defect dynamic (Ce4+ to Ce3+) in CeO2. Surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy confirmed the key role of Ce3+ states in controlling charge and energy transfer across the CeO2‐dye molecule interface.

Preprototype nitrogen supply subsystem development [PDF]

open access: yes
The design and development of a test stand for the Nitrogen Generation Module (NGM) and a series of tests which verified its operation and performance capability are described. Over 900 hours of parametric testing were achieved.

Universal In Situ Isotope Exchange Raman Spectroscopy (IERS) Methodology for Measuring Oxygen Surface Exchange Dynamics Using a Probe Layer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A bespoke multilayer thin film configuration has been designed, which overcomes the material dependency of conventional isotope exchange Raman spectroscopy (IERS). This universal IERS methodology is efficient, non‐destructive and provides additional structural information and time resolution, which can be further extended to various isotopic elements ...
