Performance and Acceptance of Respirator Facial Seals
Ergonomics, 1970Three respirator full face masks with different paripheral seal designs (flat, inner flap, and pneumatic) were modified to permit study of the facial seal component. Twelve subjects participated in the study. Each subject completed a three-hour test session on each mask.

A Model for Static Sealing Performance of End Face Seals
Tribology Transactions, 1994The effect of face loading, surface roughness and material properties on the static sealing performance of mechanical face seals is analyzed. The analysis combines the problems of contact and flow between two rough surfaces. The results are compared with available experimental data and are found to be reasonable.

2009Modified PTFE oil seal is studied: non-linear finite element model of sealing interface is established to simulate the distribution of contact stress and the grinding condition. Influence of Sludge on Seal Performance
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1998<div class="htmlview paragraph">There is a case of leakage caused by improper lip contact due to the build-up of sludge on the lip area. Sludge, which is mainly carbide, is generated typically from aged oil under high temperature (150°C or more) conditions. However, it can also be generated in driving systems such as transfers.
