High performance combustor cloth seals

36th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 2000
Design of combustor seals poses a real challenge to designers who seek to achieve extended service life. In gas turbines with can-annular combustion systems, the combustor seals are used to seal the gap between the cans (transition duct) and the first stage nozzles.

Sealing Performance and Wear Mechanism of PTFE Oil Seal

2009
Modified PTFE oil seal is studied: non-linear finite element model of sealing interface is established to simulate the distribution of contact stress and the grinding condition. The friction and wear properties of PTFE composite are investigated in different loads under dry and oil-lubricated conditions.

High-performance elastomer-sealed valves

Vacuum, 1971
This paper discusses the design of elastomer-sealed valves whose outgassing rate is greatly reduced and whose reliability of operation, particularly at elevated temperatures, is enhanced. Outgassing rates of new valve designs are presented and compared with those of conventional designs. It is seen that a 15X improvement can be made. The effect of this

Performance and Acceptance of Respirator Facial Seals

Ergonomics, 1970
Three respirator full face masks with different paripheral seal designs (flat, inner flap, and pneumatic) were modified to permit study of the facial seal component. Twelve subjects participated in the study. Each subject completed a three-hour test session on each mask.

New deflected-helix ribbed lip seal with enhanced sealing performance

Tribology International, 2011
Abstract A combined finite element analysis/computational fluid dynamics scheme is used to investigate the design of a new deflected-helix ribbed lip seal. The deflected-helix design extends the high pressure region in the convergent space between the rib add the lip on the air side and yields higher pumping rate and better sealing performance.

Gas Sealing Performance Study of Metal W Shaped Seal Ring

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Gas sealing performance of metal seal ring directly affects the security and reliability of equipment operation. Gas static seals of W-ring is taken as a study object, based on the theory of rough surface contact model and the theory of gas average flow model in the rough surface gap, the gas sealing leakage model is established to analyze the ...

A Model for Static Sealing Performance of End Face Seals

Tribology Transactions, 1994
The effect of face loading, surface roughness and material properties on the static sealing performance of mechanical face seals is analyzed. The analysis combines the problems of contact and flow between two rough surfaces. The results are compared with available experimental data and are found to be reasonable.

Performance Testing Of Mechanical Seals

1992
To demonstrate the performance capability of a particular mechanical seal design in an objective way demands some means of referencing an adequately arduous test condition appropriate to the seal in question. The minimum point on the friction coefficient versus duty parameter curve is a tribologically meaningful reference point which could be used to ...
