Assessing the importance of acoustic backscatter and bottom trawling impact as predictor variables for mapping deep sea coral reefs

open access: yesFrontiers in Remote Sensing
Seamounts host some of the most biodiverse and vulnerable deep-sea ecosystems, as epitomised by the elevated diversity and biomass of fauna associated with extensive reefs of the frame-work forming coral Solenosmilia variabilis.

Seamount acoustic scattering

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1988
The cover of the March 1 issue of Eos showed a time series of acoustic scattering above Southeast Hancock Seamount (29°48′N, 178°05′E) on July 17–18, 1984. In a comment on that cover Martin Hovland (Eos, August 2, p. 760) argued that gas or “other far reaching causes” may be involved in the observed acoustic signals.

Coseismic Slip and Early Afterslip of the 2024 Hyuganada Earthquake Modulated by a Subducted Seamount

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
Subducted rough topography complicates seismic and aseismic slip behavior. The 2024 M 7.1 Hyuganada earthquake occurred along the megathrust with ridge subduction.

The Christmas Island Seamount Province, Indian Ocean: Origin of Intraplate Volcanism by Shallow Recycling of Continental Lithosphere? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The east-west-trending Christmas Island Seamount Province (CHRISP, 1800x600 km) in the northeastern Indian Ocean is elongated orthogonal to present-day plate motion, posing the question if a mantle plume formed this volcanic belt.
